These times we were still getting something interesting as users. Android felt much more conceptual, if I may say it that way. With versions coming after 11th.. I felt as if potential is being wasted.
Some of the functions could work even on older devices if implemented properly.

One year newer, but with a fraction (or less, in fact open source development basically ceased in 2021) of the spotlight the Nexii™ get even today.

Although this pales in comparison to the Nexus 6P at the time, I have to say, this phone was Android at its peak IMHO.
I remember back then in 2015, the "Zeitgeist" or "culture" of Android, so to speak, was very bright and optimistic. It marked the turning point where Android WAS, in fact, better and unique than an iPhone in many ways.
This is what a smartphone should be. The best camera I've ever used in a non-iPhone cell phone (please keep in mind I don't buy/use $1-2k+ smartphones). It otherwise just worked. It was a pleasure to use. Reception wasn't too great, but back then cell coverage was abysmal outside of cities and dense suburbs and I'm pretty sure it was quite good for its time. I don't have it to test now because it died at around the 2 year mark, due to a very common design flaw.
What I'd want out of an improvement is a give or take 6.5" screen, which I think has been found to be the perfect screen size. I'd want the best radio and antenna it could take (I'm tired of all the compromise nowadays; cell service is still a mediocre, macro-mania mess outside of dense cities and suburbs on what "competition" is left of the 3 triopoly carriers we have). I'd want the successor to THIS camera and not all the other trainwrecks I've used since. Of course I'd want a newer, bigger battery. And I'd want Samsung or simply just LG to make it independently (pretending LG was still in the game).
Of course, Nexus meant something. Pixel, to me, does not. And after my 5 years of 'Pixel purgatory', never again.
RIP 5X (bullhead), by far one of the best smartphones ever made.
It great phone with best features you can love.it just sadly LG have stopped making phones
The baron, 07 May 2022It is even today my daily phone. That's some impressive staying power. ; - ) And it makes me feel guilty for getting rid of mine years ago, but I agree it was a great phone back in its day. FYI, based on the note from the site below it appears it's days may be coming to an end regardless of it still working for you as U.S. carriers are dropping support for 3G. : - (
3G Frequency Bands by Provider
Note: As of February 22, 2022, AT&T phased out its 3G network to make room for a more modern one. T-Mobile is expected to shut down its 3G network by July 1, 2022, and Verizon by December 31, 2022.

It was a very decent phone with a great camera and looks. Felt nice to touch, weighed next to nothing, which I liked alot.
Unfortunately it had a fatal design flaw in its cooling system that caused CPU overheat exfoliation. It all ended up with a bootloop majority of owners experienced. Too bad

Bought at March 2017. Still ongoing. Fantastic phone.
I bought this phone on 2016 May, i loved it but sadly i only use it for short period of time only because i drop it from my 34th floor on my condo. The camera is top notch. battery was sub par. On Jul 2021 i manage to fix the screen which i bought from aliexpress but sadly my phone doesnt turn on at all. It is very sad to see such a device ended up being malfunction. Oh yes i bought it for RM1, 100.00 I wish my future phone wont ended up being like my 5x.
I got mine repaired under extended warranty but it came back dead slow maybe because they disabled 2 cores? Also, Upgraded to Android 8.
Ifixit.com has parts and accessories for the Nexus 5X

That's where I got my replacement battery.
Also look into their toolkits. There is one they offer that has nearly every tool needed to get into 95% of devices.
