I still wonder why the fast charger trick can't work for the big companies but for Chinese it works well
Hajlorr, 26 Nov 2020Snapdragon 845?Yes, in India. They used SD 845 because they didn't launch 5G model in India
Bought the LG Velvet at Walmarts. Salesman "set it up". Got home and could log in ONCE. ONE phone call. ONE photo taken - then the phone was nonfunctional. Four Hours on "Chat" , then emails trying to fix problem - different instructions sent - totally opposite info. Phone jammed, no fingerprint ID able to be used. Sent for repairs. Waiting for SLOW return by Canada Post. Email claims it got new tabs, back, inside redone- so really?? This is a NEW phone now?? Then my address book reveals photo of salesman and the person is downloading all my photos. Extremely dissatisfied with the junk quality of the phone, the poor service instructions, the invasions of privacy and now a "new" phone majorly repaired.
bought this phone today in sale fore 299 euro at saturn germany.
its so great, supers build quality, fast software, cameras are nice etc etc.
great phone from Lg for sure.
Muzik, 26 Nov 2020Yup, that decision is taking us away form LG. But lets see what comes next with a Quad Dac. I ... moreSwiveling phones with moving parts like LG Wing are always made with some compromises. A traditional bar shaped phone like LG G8X have some inherent advantages like no moving parts which helps it easily achieving IP68 rating, inclusion of big 4000 mAh battery & still space left to cram in a 3.5 mm audio jack with awesome QuadDAC.
For Wing, there is a huge mechanical hinge assembly inside the phone holding the display to the phone back side to provide the swiveling movement. This assembly eats up lot a space inside the phone. When ever we have moving parts, water may also sip in through the hinge. So we get lower IP54 rating.
Then there is a second display which eats more space. From what I read LG wanted to give Wing a reasonable sized battery to power two screens, so after fitting the same battery of G8X (4000 maH) there were no room left for the audio jack. Two displays will eat up a lot of battery so this size in minimum i believe. Mind you Wing 10 mm taller than G8X, with the same size battery but still the hinge mechanism ate of lot of valuable internal space. This is why LG Velvet with similar size of Wing has a bigger battery and audio jack because it is a traditional bar phone.

But lets see what comes next with a Quad Dac. I am afraid if they totally discontinue this sound quality line up in future. Because LG Wing is of 70k and still missing Dac which I think was not a good move. I checked many reviews but didn't get what i wanted. Hope for better future for LG (Sound Lovers).
Muzik, 21 Nov 2020Thanks for suggestions but to be very frank, I didn't like the V60 design personally. Wel... moreWell, design & looks are subjective and personal. It is upto the buyer to suite his/her needs and preferences. Regarding android security patch updates, LG never had a good track record. Forget about monthly or bi-monthly patches my LG V30+ had bi-annual updates. So it is fair to say LG is weak on the software side, but their software is stable.
Us music lovers still overlook above issues for ultimate sound quality over headphone jack, but with current commission of QuadDAC due to change of LG strategic business decisions have left us further away from LG. I completely understand your point.

Well, if my G7+ will having any issues in future, I will go for a QuadDac player instead of a mobile. If I need to upgrade my mobile anyway, I will go for Samsung or apple. Because I am a bit disappointed with security patches and software update for LG phones. I will for LG when there will be something comes which really makes me to buy without looking to any other options. Same happened when i brought LG G7+. I just brought it without a single doubt.
I tried so many g cam on my LG velvet the app is hanging a lot
Not able to focus is there a link where I can find a perfect g cam for my velvet
Muzik, 20 Nov 2020Completely understood and agreed with your thoughts. Well, my periority is audio output here.... moreFrom now on if you want to have QuadDACs you have to buy LG flagships. And Velvet is more of an upper mid-tier offering from LG. Get the V60 if you want to upgrade.

Well, my periority is audio output here. I also used v series mobiles v20 and G series G5 and what makes me stick to LG is only sound quality. And still, i am using G7+ and i dont to upgarde to Velvet just beacuse of design which is not a important thing to me. I hardly use that for other then audio/calls sometimes camera (G7+ camera is awesome in manual mode) etc. I had a tab and now that upgraded to Tab s7 which do all the things for me. I use alpha6400 for photography. But its been 26 months and give a thought to upgrade that but I will go for a QuadDac mobile in every way.

However after the current reshuffle of LG Mobile's top management the direction and priorities have changed.
Outcome:
1) LG will mainly concentrate on experimental concepts like LG Wing. New concepts requires a lot of energy and manpower so the development team from Korea mainly responsible for LG flagships like G & V series phones will now concentrate on experimental concept phones and a traditional top-tier V series 5G phone. V series will have QuadDACs.
2) The experimental phones will be for marketing reasons, for drawing consumer attention and grabbing head lines. From strategic business perspective this type of products are very important. Just think of Samsung Galaxy Fold.
3) From low to mid-tier products upto Velvet, LG will outsource from ODMs. Bad news. Expect no QuadDACS here.
4) Under previous management if you look at LG G6, G7, G8, G8X, V30, V40, V50 they all look very similar. Same industrial no nonsense design but with little design flair or snazz. Though I love the design of my V30+ & G8X. Under new management its all about design. Just look at Velvet & Wing. When you splurge more money and effort on design, something have to give. Out goes QuadDAC and audio tuning houses like Meridian Audio & B&O.
5) Lets be realistic, the highest selling flagships in the world gives a damn to audio jack and its audio quality. So why should LG? I say all this with a heavy heart as a audio fanatic. My LG G8X with Meridian Audio tuned QuadDAC & aslo stereo speakers are the very best I ever heard on a smartphone. I hope LG continues this tradition for us audio lovers.
Raj, 11 Nov 2020Ist 5G or not ?In India you get 4G version of Velvet i.e. Velvet with Snapdragon 845.
Ist 5G or not ?
Everything is okey for me for this model like sd845 , 6/128, cam is good but No quad DAC..?? I brought Lg g7 plus thinq in 2018 just because of awesome and immersive sound quality. That mobile is still at the top in everything. But I really like the design and want to buy but after reading reviews, I decided to stick with G7+ only. Thanks reviewers for your contribution.
Does it have gorilla glass??
I do want to laugh at this phone for only having Snapdragon 845, but the usage of Android 10 out of the box really proves that chipset is not important compared to software version.
gnusmag, 22 Sep 2020I know it feels odd that they use an "old" chip, but the 845 is still the third fast... moreBut what about the power consumption, how does that compare to the latest phones at the same price?
