Microsoft Xbox Gaming

Microsoft has announced that effective immediately the prices for all of its Xbox products are going up. This includes consoles, controllers, accessories, and even first-party Xbox titles.

The consoles are getting by far the heftiest price hikes, with the Series X getting a substantial $100 bump to the standard models and an eye-watering $130 for the Galaxy Black Special Edition. Meanwhile, the Series S sees around $80 added to its original prices.

The hikes extend to accessories, where the controllers are now $5-$40 more than before, along with the headsets.

More importantly, Microsoft is also increasing the pricing for some of its new first-party titles, which will go from $70 to $80 for the standard variant, starting this holiday season. The only thing not getting a price bump is the Game Pass service, which will remain as is and is about to become even more attractive as it includes all first-party as well as several third-party titles.

New price Old price
Xbox Series S 512 $379.99 $299.99
Xbox Series S 1TB $429.99 $349.99
Xbox Series X Digital $549.99 $449.99
Xbox Series X $599.99 $499.99
Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition $729.99 $599.99
Xbox Wireless Controller (Core) $64.99 $59.99
Xbox Wireless Controller (Color) $69.99 $64.99
Xbox Wireless Controller – Special Edition $79.99 $74.99
Xbox Wireless Controller – Limited Edition $89.99 $84.99
Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Core) $149.99 $139.99
Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Full) $199.99 $159.99
Xbox Stereo Headset $64.99 $59.99
Xbox Wireless Headset $119.99 $109.99

Unlike some other brands, Microsoft is making these price hikes worldwide. The company blames market conditions (read: tariffs) and the rising cost of development but one can't help but feel that it's opportunistic considering Nintendo also just bumped up its prices while launching an $80 first-party title of its own.

Yes, but lower price does not equal higher value. For the longest time, the better value was on Early-PS3 to Mid-PS4 as they gave more games, better games, and for free. Then it was about equal with the PS4 Pro/XB1X/XSS era. Now with the PS5/XSX...
