Motorola Android In for review Featured

Motorola’s Moto G50 aims to solidify the maker’s midrange 5G portfolio and it will be put to the test since we managed to receive a unit for review here at HQ. So what exactly do you get here and should you consider a Moto as your first 5G phone?

The packaging here is your typical Moto affair with a clear gel case, USB-C cable and a 10W power adapter present in the box. Our review unit sports the uninspiring Steel Gray colorway which is quite reflective and gives out shades of blue under certain lighting. The phone feels substantial in hand weighing at 192 grams. The plastic frame and back are nothing to brag about but are well put together and feel sturdy enough.

Going around the front, we have a 6.5-inch IPS LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate. The panel sports a decent-sized chin while the top is interrupted by a water drop notch for the 13MP selfie cam. The display is not the brightest and the 720p resolution is a bit disappointing to see on a 2021 midranger.

My UX on top of Android 11 runs smooth and the phone certainly feels snappy given the 90Hz refresh rate. We’ll have to see how the Snapdragon 480 5G handles more demanding benchmarks though.

There are two cameras around the back with a 48MP mains shooter and 5MP macro cam and the few samples we took look quite usable upon first glance. The third opening is for the 2MP depth helper.

So a 5G phone for €250 with a midrange chipset, clean software and a 5,000 mAh battery. Sounds good on paper but we’ll have to go through our tests to see if it merits your consideration. Stay tuned for our full review coming up next week.

Dude, you sound like a broken fan. There are still people interested in this phone, even if there are cheaper alternatives. 1, because of availability, 2 because they prefer clean android experience, 3 because they prefer the moto design, 4 better ba...
