Motorola Android Announcement

Motorola has unveiled its 2025 generation of flip foldables and they are its first to feature dust resistance - something few foldables have. The Ultra has major improvements, while the vanilla model remains focused on affordable price.

Motorola Razr 60 Ultra

The Motorola Razr 60 Ultra features an upgraded display, improved battery, camera enhancements and flagship performance. Properly this time, no “s” chipsets. Note that the phone will be known as “Motorola Razr ultra” in the US. There is a “Razr+ 2025”, but that's a rerelease of the Razr+ 2024.

The Ultra is now rated IP48, the “4” promising ingress protection from larger particles. The body is a bit thicker (7.2mm/15.7mm, up from 7.1mm/15.3mm) and heavier (199g, up from 189g) than the previous Ultra.

The upside of that, beyond the increased durability, is the 700mAh increase in battery capacity to 4,700mAh. Motorola also enabled faster charging – 68W wired and 30W wireless (up from 45W/15W).

The cover display is the same size, a 4” P-OLED panel now protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic. It’s a high quality LTPO display (up to 165Hz refresh rate) with 10-bit colors and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. Outdoor visibility is aided by the 3,000 nits peak brightness (up from 2,400 nits).

The main display is a bit larger at 7” with the same 22:9 aspect ratio. The new model has 1224p+ resolution, up from 1080p+, which bumps up the pixel density to 464ppi (up from 413ppi). It’s an LTPO panel with up to 165Hz refresh rate, 10-bit colors and 120% DCI-P3 coverage. Besides the resolution, Motorola also boosted the brightness to 4,000 nits (up from 3,000 nits).

The Moto Razr 60 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite – Motorola didn’t cut corners this time. The chip is paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB UFS 4.0 storage – some regions will get a 1TB option exclusively from Motorola.com. The phone comes with Android 15 out of the box.

Last year, Motorola chose a 2x telephoto camera over an ultra-wide. This year it reverses that decision and pairs the main camera with a 50MP 122° UW module (f/2.0 lens, 0.6µm pixels) that doubles as a macro camera.

The main camera is a 50MP unit (f/1.8 lens, 1.0µm pixels) with all-pixel PDAF, OIS and Pantone Validated Color and Skin Tones. This new camera is capable of 8K video recording at 30fps and does 4K at 60fps. The 4” cover display and the main+UW cameras are great for selfies, but there is also a 50MP selfie camera inside (f/2.0, 0.64µm).

The Ultra supports Android's digital car key feature, which works with select BMW and Mini models over NFC and UWB. Another new addition is the support for Dolby Vision (both playback and recording). Dolby Atmos is also available for the phone's stereo speakers.

The phone comes in four Pantone colors: Rio Red, Scarab, Mountain Trail and Cabaret, which draw inspiration from different materials.

Motorola Razr 60

The Motorola Razr 60 (aka “Motorola razr 2025”) has a more modest set of upgrades but it preserves its status as an affordable flip foldable. One feature shared with its Ultra sibling is the IP48 rating - it is protected against dust and can survive being submerged under 1.5m of water.

The vanilla model has a smaller cover display, though its 3.6” diagonal still makes it bigger than competing models like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip6. The main display inside is a 6.9” P-OLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate and 1080p+ resolution.

The Razr 60 is powered by the Dimensity 7400X, which is only a mild upgrade over the 7300X inside last year’s model. Moto highlights a 15% improvement in AI performance. Motorola increased the maximum RAM capacity with options including 8GB, 12GB and 16GB. Storage starts at 128GB for the base model and goes up to 512GB, though exclusive models will have 1TB.

Motorola bumped up the battery capacity to 4,500mAh (+300mAh over the Razr 50), while keeping the charging system the same – 30W wired and 15W wireless.

The camera features a 50MP main module (with OIS) and a 13MP ultra-wide (with macro mode). The selfie camera built into the inner display is a 32MP module.

Pricing & availability

In the US, both Motorola Razr models are going on pre-order on May 7 with availability for unlocked models set for May 15. Select carriers will also have units on the 15th. Pricing for the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra/Razr+ 2025 starts at $1,300, while the Motorola Razr 60/Razr 2025 starts at $700. In Canada, pre-orders are set for May 7 as well and the vanilla model will be out on the 15th. The razr+ will arrive later on the June 3. In the UK, the Razr 60 Ultra is £1,100 for a 16/512GB unit (the only option available).

Motorola is also revamping the Razr+ from 2024 with an IP48 rating and an enhanced hinge.

Judging by the size of the holes on every phone, I'd say it's expected.
