I got the phone and its great. I have Cingular and I have using the settings below in previous posts to get the Internet on the phone.

The problem I have is using the phone as a router for my labtop (winXP) to browse the Internet. I used the motorola tools program and get his error meesage after it tries to verify username and password:

"The PPP link control protocol was terminated. The GPRS network connection could not be established, make sure the GPRS network is accessible and that you have subscribed to the GPRS option."

Has anybody go this to work? If so you have gotten this to work, any suggestions for me to get it to work?

Thanks in advance.

I read that voice dialing is not possible via bluetooth. (maybe somewhere on this board?)

Could someone please confirm or deny this? Wirelessly controlling your phone by voice would be UBER cool. (expecially in a car w/ built in bluetooth)

Hi,
Anyone having trouble with the ringtones? For incoming UnKnown Numbers (unlisted numbers), it doesn't play the default ringer I selected. I read somewhere that all contacts should be stored to the phone and not the sim to avoid this problem. I've done that but the wrong ringtone still plays.

Hi, I just found out the calendar on the A780 uses wrong week numbers! It shouldn't have been too difficult to program the correct numbers, but this calendar thinks the first week of the year starts on 01-01-[any year] where as anyone can tell you the first week of the year is the first WHOLE week in january. So, in 2005 (week #1 starts on 3 january) this phone is constantly one week ahead. How lame...

I had to re-post these settings because I received e-mails about connecting but not being able to use the browser to browse. For CINGULAR wireless customers trying to setup their internet access on the motorola A780. Below are the internet & browser settings:
APN: wap.cingular
User name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
Time Out:24 HOUR (it Could be anything though)
DNS SERVER should be checked
(1)66.209.11.61

CSD setting
Dial in number:14152441012
no check mark for query at logon
Username:WAP@CINGULAR.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
Baud Rate:9600
Line Type:ISDN
Time out:30 min

Once you have these settings in place you need to configure the browser. To do these,a cingular profile to work with the browser has to be created. The motorola A780 browser profile is originally set to enome or
i-style or something else.To create a cingular profile for the browser to
actually work, open the Opera browser, click on the lower left button to
open the browser menu, click on 'setup' then go to 'profile', click on the
'profile' menu, select 'New' and enter these settings.

Profile name: Cingular
Primary gateway IP: 66.209.11.61
Port: 9201
Secondary gateway IP: 0.0.0.0
Port: 0
Homepage: http://wap.oa.yahoo.com (it could be anything though)

Make sure that you enter them exactly the way i have it written down as in uppercase letters for passwords and lowercase letters for APN. Once you're done make sure GPRS is enabled. To enable GPRS click on either the time or signal bars, scroll down and click the GPRS drop down menu to enable or disable. Another thing.. GPRS and CSD dont work together so remember that once GPRS is enabled you cannot use the dial up. GoodLuck with the settings and pls let me know if you need anymore assistance.

Answer:
1. It does vibrates then rings or it rings
2. Yes you can set mp3 as ring tones
I have another question for those who using it in EDGE networks, what data speed do you get, i heard that this phone supports class 4 for EDGE networks, so data speed must be about 170 kb/s, but i got only about 70 kb/s, did you get maximum speed? or what maximum speed for download you get?

To all of you in the U.S who are using the A780 with T mobile and looing to set your connection to T-Zone. Please login to https://secure.mouse2mobile.com/clients/tmobileUS/ota_support/.

As tmobile did not set up a special configuration for this phone you may want to select the setup for the Motorola Rzor and follow the instruction.. it works perfectly ok with this A780 as well.
