If you are buying a phone for it's internet or email capabilities,
Remember To Try Before You Buy!!!!
1) Be sure that the phone works well with your service providers network. Surf the web on it for a few minutes and check it out.
2) Be sure that the phone supports secure connections. (SSL, WTLS...) If it doesn't, you will likely be unable to access your email.
3) Be sure that both the browser and email client have options ( not just "Delete"). The email client should offer support for Secure an Non-Secure POP3 and IMAP, as well as Changeable Ports. If not, and you use Gmail, Yahoo or many other POP/ IMAP email providers, you won't be able to access their servers.
Hope this is useful to anyone else who is contemplating making such an investment into phone producers R&D projects.
Sorry, I wish I could help, but not even the technician at the Taipei HQ could get mine to work consistantly.
Apperantly they 've run out of R&D funds and need consumers to do it for them...

I bought my A780 in Taiwan a few monthes ago. I can't seem to get the webacess to work. I contacted Cingular to get the internet connection information, but it still didn't work. Anyone know how to fix the problem?
Can any one tell me the cost of A-780 in indian rupees and availability at hyderabad.
Tried the Reqwieless Emailviewer and although it works great with Hotmail, it's no so hot with Gmail. Still a step in the right direction.
There's a mobile Mozilla in the works
called Minimo. Unfortunately I cant figure out how to install it. Assuming it's compatible with the A780.
I new I shouldn't have sold the second computer. Now I'll have to install Linux on this machine.
You can try these...
Just found them today. Funny thing as I'm on sourceforge all the time..
this is urgent and really important.

I've installed it, but can't really try it as I get realy bad reception in the mountain top complex that I live in. I'll try it tomorrow morning and post to let you know how it went.
Now if only I could find something that can let me edit office files, I'd be more more than ready to eat my words. I don't mind buying the software. It's just the fact that it's so damn hard to find. This is the first peice of software that actually installed on my phone. Even this, only after it warned me that it's an unauthorized application.Either way, I can't thank you enough. At least now I have some form of hope.
Hi Nam, well your story is a rather sad one. I still am very fond of phone and it's capabilities although I don't need the games eiter.
For another webbrowser or email client try http://www.reqwireless.com/emailviewer.html
Ok, so here's the verdict...
Just talked to a girl named Lisa at the Taipei office and she has no clue.
I asked about where I could find the claimed, "wide range of applications" that could be installed on the phone and she apologetically said, "there aren't any." She wanted me to drop the phone off at their office to have it looked at. I explained that I've already spent a day tracking down an office that can fix the phone and that the last time that I came, no one would serve me because it was lunch time. I explained that the ONLY time that I could come by was their lunch, and she said that there was no way that some could take their lunch a little earlier or a little later to deal with my phone. I explained that this issue is escalating and that my warranty is running along with my patience, while they ate their lunches but she didn't seem to care much. She explained that they just turned on a phone and that it seemed to work just fine. This, after the fact that I’d explained to her many times, that the internet services work, but only 5% of the time. Thus you would have to use it for at least a day or two to find the problem. Again she was indifferent.
My decade and a half of patronage, paid back in full.
If you are looking into buying this phone, be sure that you can get a full refund should there be any problem at all. There is likely to be one. I’ve looked around and found that these are becoming consistent issues.
Problems is, you’ve gotta look past the great reviews by people who are only speculating.
Too few if any, of which, have actually used it for any period of time.
I can't seem to get my Gmail or hotmail to work.
Not on the browser as Opera supports neither, nor on the email client.
This renders my phone useless to me.
I was also under the impression that I'd be able to find applications for it, but have yet to find anything other than games and ringtones. What do they have to do with business?
Does anyone know where I can find a document editor or better browser and email client for the phone?
Back again on what I wrote yesterday. Sorry to say, but the synchronization software supplied with the phone (Mobile Phone Tools v3.19e by BVRP)synchronizes far from flawless with Outlook agenda/contacts/ToDo list, which is a set back for such a great phone. Too bad...
Hi, after having thought about it for a long time, I have finally purchased an A780 (from Mobilebee) and I just can say that for me as a business user it is absolutely marvelous. Nothing less than that.
The number of java applications and games available is 10 times that of symbian and palm applications put together. Java is safe and it can be pushed... Java is the future of mobile phones...even nokia is trying to put more java into symbian
Guys, stop arguing. A780 is NOT a linux phone (which is a pity) - it runs java on top of linux, and you have no access to linux layer at all, it is just another [beep] java phone. Fast CPU, big screen, nice design, but java. If they'd only put symbian or palmos inside....
Yes.. Linux share is low now.. but wait for another 2 years ... Linux will be king in mobile phones .... A780 linux software is very mature... It is the fourth linux phone in the Motorola line and is very refined ... I enjoy every moment using it ... Right now there is a dearth of Linux applications... But you get enough Java applications to augment that ... A780 is the fastest java phone available today.
linux is bad ,if you comparing to other available OS, linux the worst & has the smallest percentage OS market of smartphone/pda .If anyone wants to get rid of linux thats reasonable
