AT&T is taking the plunge - they've started selling their first Android device. The Motorola BACKFLIP is a full-QWERTY phone running Android with MOTOBLUR UI and a pretty interesting keyboard. The name is actually a good hint here.
Besides having the QWERTY keyboard on its back, the Motorola BACKFLIP is actually a pretty standard Android phone - Android 1.5 Cupcake, 3.1" HVGA touchscreen, 528MHz CPU, 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM and a 5MP camera. Connectivity is covered by 7.2Mbps HSDPA (and quad-band GSM/EDGE of course), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.
This is the first taste of Android that AT&T customers are getting but there's more where that came from. AT&T are getting other Android devices beside the Motorola BACKFLIP. There will be a Dell phone (we're guessing the Dell Mini 3iX) and HTC phone(s), though we're not sure which one(s) exactly.
The Motorola BACKFLIP can be yours now from AT&T for 349 US dollars with no contract or 99 dollars after a 100 dollar mail-in rebate on a 2-year 30-dollar-a-month contract.
