Been using this phone for a couple of months now and thought i post my opinion about it.
I work as a miner for a living so i needed a phone that can withstand the harsh conditions found on a minesite and the motorola defy+ seemed like a good choice.
I find the build quality very solid. The phone is light and feels great in the hand, it gives you the impression that it can withstand fair bit of abuse and it can. I've knocked it around, dropped it a few times, its been used in extremely wet, humid and dusty conditions and weathered it all very well. A simple wipe with a cloth has it coming up clean and ready to go again.
With the latest update from motorols the defy+ is running gingerbread 2.3.6 and for the most part it performs very well although there are times when it does lag for some reason. Navigating and using the phone is a fairly smooth experience and suffices for everyday use. The only issue i have is i seem to have trouble texting on this phone although i mainly put this down to having moved from a larger 4" screen to the smaller 3.7" found on this handset. Txting in landscape mode is a bit of a pain too as motorola have placed the spacebar off to the right side of the screen for some reason. However this could probably be fixed with a replacement keyboard.
Cell reception is literally the best i've ever had from a mobile phone in my current location. Most phones i've used in the past usually sat at around 2-3 bars where as the defy+ is consistantly at 4-5. Call quality is great too, motorolas crystal talk technology really shines. The speaker is quite loud, one of the loudest i've heard from a smartphone. Voices come thru loud and clear and music playback is great too.
The 5MP camera takes ok pictures. Image quality is not that great but its good enough for sharing on facebook or printing small photos. Shutter times are not amazing but i find them surprisingly quick for a device of this kind and faster than other mid ranged phones that i've used.
Lastly battery life is really good. This is the best i've ever had from an android handset. I'm a moderate user and i get 2 days between charges.
So if you're looking for a tough reliable smartphone with good battery life then you wont go wrong with the motorols defy+.
don, 28 Dec 2011please confirm me that does it get 4.0 upgrade? From everything i've read this phone will not get the ICS update. I dont think its hardware is good enough to run it optimally
