I have a Defy. This is my 1st smartphone. (but my 1st mobile was the old analouge, Motorola batphone "brick" in 1990)

My comments on Defy:

Like the size in palm and therefore grip on phone.
Navigating around the phone and customising was easier than I was expecting.
Simple access to my email - but I was already using gmail.
Like the ability to control how the phone accesss data and the clear data use counter.
Can view document attachments easily enough.
Moisture resistance (it got wet when washing the car).
Reception ability in marginal areas (rural optus .au)
Car cradle and antenna coupler coming from carcomm(if pre-ordered)
Camera adequate, pictures ok, video ok. (I take a lot of outdoors pictures).
Navigation features is acceptable for where I live (rural Australia)
Battery life about 2 days and slowly improving.
Biased towards social networking and what I'd call "trash" news like its the be all and end all - but thats smartphones in 2011...sigh.
Swype on a smaller screen is a pain - I'm still getting used to that. One day these younger people will get gorilla fingers from life's hard knocks and work :)
Cant see the benefits of Motorblur and/or front end user view average is in content.

My Summary: Defy seems to be a reasonable entry smartphone for mature people who dont care about the intricacies of Andriod 2.2 vs whatever; they just want it to work and be sturdier than the likes of iphone. Reception ability is a bonus.

Tip: I f you too are new to smartphones download the .pdf manual for the phone from motorola.com.

My last remaining concern is about using it as a modem. Does that require rooting? Cos Im sure to mess it up!

AnonD-4741, 27 Mar 2011can anyone tell me what is the meaning of "limited storage for installing apps" and ... moreFor Defy it means you have ~2GB for installing apps (which will not be easy to fill, but even if you somehow manage to succeed Defy will be upgraded to froyo very soon, see previous posts for details, and than you'll be able to install your apps on SD card as well = SD card's capacity + ~2GB for installing apps)

Motoblur is a biiit laggy :P... if it bothers you - try LauncherPro or maybe ADW or something else - they all work flawlessly :D

AnonD-4688, 26 Mar 2011Hi guys! I am looking to buy a Defy in the coming week and so I need a little clarification on... moreI'm using it for a month and it never rebooted... and you can use the phone as a modem for your laptop to connect to the Internet... VLC for android is still not finished (should be done within a month) - But why waiting for VLC when you can install yxplayer from android market and play absolutely everything now? It's just 2.1MB of download and Defy will be able to play virtually anything without a length and boring conversion process (even if you don't have a data plan 2.1MB is really not much).
And Galaxy Ace is dramatically inferior to Defy. Defy wins hands down :D

AnonD-4688, 26 Mar 2011Hi guys! I am looking to buy a Defy in the coming week and so I need a little clarification on... moreI have had my Defy since Jan 7 2011 and as yet it has not rebooted its self once, i did reboot it once when them that i called could not hear me at their end with me using the phone or the speaker phone, once back on it performed without a flaw.....on both the speaker and speaker phone, the reception and call quality is excellent even when i am in a huge department store i still have a grest connection and great call quality.
