I've just got this phone a day ago, and I've been having a few problems with putting MP3s on it, I've done it successfully onto the phone, but I can't do put them onto the memory card. I've downloaded them onto the card, it shows up in the Menu, when I press to play it comes up with a 'System Error' and I don't know why. And I my comp can't read the phone as a USB device.
If anyone can help, I'll be grateful. Thanks in advance!

To me

The flash is not like a camera flash but it is good enough for close range photos. I dont no of a flash on a hpne that would be any better.
When listening to MP3's you can do just about anything includ sending sms (note: playing MP3 will make phone lag)
It only has video playback not recorder.

To Oliver

You are going to have to get your service provider to give you details on everything.

To Ken

I have no idea how to fix that try upgrading firmware.

i recently purchased this phone for use with my cingular sim card. I changed all the IP settings to mirror that of my old motorola v400. It seems that i cannot access the internet or anything that requires GPRS. It keeps saying "GPRS network not available" so basically, all can do is phone calls and text messages. I dont have multimedia messaging, web access, or instant messaging. Any suggestions? Cingular does not offer this phone, although it does work on their network, so they are unable to offer me much tech support. Its ok to email me: oliverorln@aol.com

To jonothan

Hold down the red phone located to the right of the joy stick.

To David

Put songs on phone/trans flash and play them via sounds in multimedia menu. To change between Trans flash and phone memory hit the menu button when in sounds, switch storage device, phone/trans flash. Once you have found song you wish to play select it and sound will start being emitted from phone (head phones if plugged in.

To Carla

There are many reasons this could happen, I have only had item fail while sending via BT from SE K700i. But tried start after failure and it worked. Possible that your or the other phones have dodgy BT or you are saving it to Phone memory and not TF card and the file is too large. Many other reasons could be causi9ng this problem. Keep trying and if the problem persists contact Motorola. (Unlikely it is the phone but possible)

To niklaus

Try installing virtual PC and see if it works or buy a PC/use friends.

To whateva

This phone only has one problem and that is the small amount of lag it has on the original firmware. But upgrade and the phone is a dream. Price in fantastic features and looks are incredible. Best bag for buck phone on the market IMO.

have a big problem - i've an Apple G4 but motorola phone tools cd is compatible with PC only. so i cannot register it, nor DL anything for my phone. short of spending $200+ for apple compatible version of windows, how can i get this phone to work/play with my computer?

have tried many times to connect via BT dongle, but my comp refuses to "discover" any mobile phones. i went through OS X BT set-up assistant a dozen times & am on verge of giving this phone away ( since i've no use for its camera & MP3 player).
how do i make this phone show up on the list of devices?
do i have to have phone tools installed beforehand in order to connect via BT? i'm in USA & motorola helpdesk is clueless on how to help me, since this phone isn't sold here, although it works vwery well with t-mobile

I didn't have any problems transfering files to and fro using BT between my E398 n a N6230. Neither did I have any problems w a SE K700i. So I guess the BT is quite stable. And, the battery life for the E398 is quite lasting. Yeap.

To ucsmfu

Go to connections, USB connections, memory card. Windows should say portable media device detected then transfer via portable media drive. ie. Open removable disk via my computer, mobile, audio. Then drag and drop the file you want to copy into that folder.

MPT can only send files to phone so, if you send a file that is larger then the free memory in your phone it will not allow the file to send.

To doink

Use google to find application for the e398

To Beth

You have to seem edit your phone so messages are stored on Trans flashes, resulting in more space. Use google to find the web site with the guide on seem editing.

Yes it can have applications put onto the phone.

To Fred

The phone can only read mpeg4 and 3gp video formats. So mpeg will not work on phone.
