a plastic cover u said, thats probably the reason y ur phones peeling skin. its probably retaining moisture underneath, from what i understand.
and To Everyone else : is there a way to change the covers of this phone ??? scratches on the screen ( high possibilty with me )could ruin the phone ?

This you wont believe but my E398 is actually shedding its skin. The black top (somewhat rubbery in nature) is starting to peel. I have had problems before with a V8088s, which lost its silver coating (this problem is also present in the e398 side strips) on its sides.

I rarely take the phone out of its plastic cover and don’t misuse it either. Is anyone else facing the same problem? I will try and take some photos, host it, and post a link over the weekend.

E398 is cool. I own it bout few weeks.

It is better than when compare to k700i
          -FIrst, the price is cheaper.
It's cheap alot ! When compare to k700i.
-it include memory card. K700i dont hv.
-K700i hang or lag a lot.
-WHen we trasfer files such as pictures and
sounds, it it much more easier, u can
trasfer all the file at same time, if for
k700 u need click everytime from the phone
to send the file and each time only 1 file
          will be send out.
-Data cable is included, K700 u need buy
          urself. (HEHEHEH)
-The sound or MP3 ringtone of E398 is
definately NICER than k700! The volumn is
          louder than k700.
-U can change the skin and theme of the
phone, include those ICON! So SYOK! K700
          cant change those icon.
-U can modified or customize the phone wisely
          by using software.
-It got SMS delivery report alsO!!!!! k700
          DONT HAVE!
-The video play back quality is the same with
k700. Both handphone also got JERKY video
          play back.

But.... K700i also got something better than E398
          - It got radio, E398 dont hv =(
          - It got video recording. E398 dont hv =(
          - For me, the interface of K700 is much more
nicer. K700 can support animated gif file
          for Wallpaper.
          - K700 is more user frenly.( may be i am Ex
          SE users.)
          - It is smaller and lighter than E398
          - FOr me, the design of back cover of k700 is
much more nicer than E398. The key pad is
nice like JELLY, u no need afraid the
          colour will gone off.

So for me E398 is better than K700i. hehehe
          BOTH PHONE IS NICE!!!!!!!
I love both SE n MotoRola!
          NOKIA IS SUX!!!!!!
          I HATE NOKIA!!!!!!

            awsome sound:

slow OS response to the keystroke, this phone is good for old ones who are slow on typing numbers on keypad, sound is also good for old ones coz of its loudspeaker rockz

but for me its boring coz of slow OS response.

              Tyler,

gprs is the wireless modem built inside of the phone. It sounds like you need to contact your phone company and have them upgrade your service plan and possibly your sim card to include data transferring. This is required to connect to the internet.

They should be able to tell you what the settings are.

hey i just got bought this e398 from someone in mint condition for 40$ and all i had to do was put my t-mobile sim card in it. but the only problem is the t-mobile affiliated internet service called 't-zones' is not on the e398, even though my old phone is still a motorola. when i try to connect to the browser it says it 'cannot make a gprs network connection'? what the hell does that mean? how do i get access to the net? do i need some kind of adapter to use my mem card?

What version of Windows are you using? If you are using Windows 98, the driver files don't install automatically. Windows 2000 and XP will install the drivers automatically. It might also be good to know how much free space is on your card or if the card has been write protected. In a worst case scenerio, I would suggest formating you card and then try copying the MP3s again. It could be that the card's file system has become corrupt. I am not quite sure what else to say.

                          Akshay,
It is easier to copy and paste the MP3 files in Windows Explorer. The files should go into the Sounds folder on the TFlash card.

Whenever I try to load MP3's directly or through Mobile Phone tools to the T-flash memory I get a cycle redundancy check on the comp. Why's this happening?

                            Thanks,
                            Akshay

The FM Radio isn't built-in...you have to purchase the FM Radio Headset separately.

                                Guys,
How to install a FM Radio? In Nokia and SE fones the headset itself contains the FM transmitter. Any clue on this, pls advice.

Also how gud is the photo quality using flash especially in dark?

                                Thanx in advance...

                                  Niki,

The phone is not lightning fast. However, there was a significant improvement on the performance.

By the way, I am now able to store SMS messages in the phone memory instead of the sim card. I did this by modifying a seem file with a hex editor. The instructions are in my previous post.

Here is an interesting web site link:

                                  http://xlr8.us/hofo/

The site mentions specifically about the V series. However, most of the tips and tricks discussed can be applied toward the e398.

There is also a tutorial on how to use the hex editor. There is a lot of useful information. Have fun!!!

                                      Update from previous post:

You can show or hide the dashes normally shown in phone numbers by modifying 004a_0001.seem offset 80 (Hex) using a Hex editor.

                                      Value Function
                                      ------ --------------
01 Hides dashes in phone numbers.
                                      00 Displays dashes in numbers.

I successfully did this using p2kman and XVI32. Make sure you make a backup of the seem file before changing the values.

I upgraded the flex on my e398. Everything seems to be alright, with one small problem.

When I am dialing phone numbers, the masking has problems. It seems to be set up for US phone numbers, which has a mask of 999-9999, with 7 digits. In Hong Kong, where I am living, the phone numbers have a mask of 9999-9999, with 8 digits. When I dial numbers or the caller id shows up, the - shows up after the 3rd digit instead of the 4th. Does anybody know how to change the masking or to eliminate the - ? Thanks in advance for your help.
