Introduction

The vanilla Motorola Edge 50 has finally hit the shelves worldwide, and it's quite an intriguing offer. Priced around €500, the Edge 50 brings a thin but durable body, a large and high-res P-OLED screen, capable hardware, a premium camera kit and a beefy battery with fast charging.

The Edge 50 design has already debuted on the Pro and Ultra versions, and it's one we do like - a thin profile with a vegan leather back panel and MIL-SRD-810H and IP68 certifications. There is a nicely large 6.7-inch P-OLED at the front with 1220p resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate.

The phone runs on the somewhat dated but still powerful enough Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 AE chip and supports some AI tricks, mostly focused on cameras.

Motorola Edge 50 specs at a glance:

  • Body: 160.8x72.4x7.8mm, 180g; Glass front, aluminum frame, silicone polymer (vegan leather or vegan suede) back; IP68 dust/water resistant (up to 1.5m for 30 min), MIL-STD-810H compliant.
  • Display: 6.70" P-OLED, 1B colors, 120Hz, HDR10+, 1600 nits (peak), 1220x2712px resolution, 20.01:9 aspect ratio, 446ppi.
  • Chipset: Qualcomm SM7450-AB Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 AE (4 nm): Octa-core (1x2.5 GHz Cortex-A710 & 3x2.36 GHz Cortex-A710 & 4x1.8 GHz Cortex-A510); Adreno 644.
  • Memory: 256GB 8GB RAM, 256GB 12GB RAM, 512GB 12GB RAM; UFS 2.2.
  • OS/Software: Android 14, up to 5 major Android upgrades.
  • Rear camera: Wide (main): 50 MP, f/1.8, 1/1.56", 1.0µm, multi-directional PDAF, OIS; Telephoto: 10 MP, f2.0, 73mm, 1.0µm, PDAF, 3x optical zoom, OIS; Ultra wide angle: 13 MP, f/2.2, 13mm, 120˚, 1.12µm, PDAF.
  • Front camera: 32 MP, f/2.4, (wide), 0.7µm.
  • Video capture: Rear camera: 4K@30fps, 1080p@30/60/120/240fps; Front camera: 4K@30fps, 1080p@30/120fps.
  • Battery: 5000mAh; 68W wired, 15W wireless.
  • Connectivity: 5G; eSIM; Dual SIM; Wi-Fi 6e; BT 5.2; NFC.
  • Misc: Fingerprint reader (under display, optical); stereo speakers.

And speaking of cameras, the Edge 50 has three cameras on the back - a 50MP OIS primary, a 10MP OIS 3x telephoto and a 13MP AF ultrawide/macro. There is also a 32MP selfie.

As a typical Motorola Edge, the Edge 50 also brings a pair of loud stereo speakers and a 5,000mAh battery with 68W wired and 15W wireless charging. The phone should be eligible for 5 major Android upgrades.

Motorola Edge 50 review

Our only concern is that the Edge 50 comes a bit late to the party and joins an already oversaturated series. Other than that, it does shape as an excellent upper-tier midranger.

Unboxing the Motorola Edge 50

The Motorola Edge 50 is packed in one of those scented paper boxes the maker uses for the entire Edge 50 series. And the arguably nice aroma is there for at least a year, maybe more.

Inside the box, you will find the phone itself, a USB-C cable and a hard gray case witha very grippy finish. The bundle contains no charger, though any PD one would do just fine.

I was about to get the Edge 50 , but after so many reports about poor battery life, I decided to get the Neo. And i don´t regret it´s a great device. Nevertheless the the peach fuzz color is crazy how nice the device looks
