The lack of compass and water resistance is a step-back from previous generations.
I actually decided to return mine because of that.
Otherwise it would be a really good device :(

I hoped this phone wont have quality issues since Lenovo owns Motorola. But this phone is a disappointment. My G3 turbo has heating issues too but it still runs better in many ways plus its waterproof. Camera is great and everything else is just too bad.
thanks for ur opinions....i was juss in favour of this fone....bt now going towards something else......so any preference for buying new phone in this range?

After 1 month moto g4 plus auto dead soo please dont waste your valueble money in motorola
Gave this phone a 1 week test drive, and here's a breakdown of what I found.
*Note: Experiences may differ
- Decent camera, zoom is pretty clear. Auto-focus is great.
- Pretty zippy through menus (should be given the hardware)
- Universal quick charger (I bought for $8) works with device
- Overheats... big time
- Ghosting happens quite often (i.e: touch the middle of the phone, it thinks you hit the "home button")
- All sorts of games and applications lag, freeze then crash. From Solitare to RPGs. Doesn't matter. Play for more than 15 minutes, and it's clockwork.
- Battery consumption is ridiculous. Even with: light to moderate use, screen on very low, cell data/network only, bluetooth/wifi off, location off, text, and play some games, I end up having to charge from 5% within 6 hours. Heavy use, I have to put it on the charger in about 4 hours.
- Notification LED doesn't work
For the price of the phone, I get it has some great hardware specs. But what good is a Ferrari when it only has 1/8 a tank of gas, and some electrical gremlins? This phone has been a huge disappointment. Possibly the only saving grace for this phone is the excellent work continued by the XDA community.
Although I shouldn't be surprised. Motorola does make some good hardware but being paired up with Lenovo was this phone's cryptonite.
There are much better phones out there for this price, and cheaper.
swaraj, 03 Jul 2016Vry average phone....... When I charge dis device suddenly unfortunate things are happening..... moreObviously there's a fault with phone or charger or both as I have it had it since it came out & can assure you I have never had a phone take 8 hours to charge

The heating issue is a real problem, especially if you sleep with your phone near you. It is almost like a furnace if you attempt to use it while charging. I found the phone body very weak and the software quite dated. You can't even access photos and videos directly from the camera! I hope this helps.
This phone is a huge disappointment. And the Motorola Centres are of no help. I feel a little trapped because it is not a very cheap phone. Software is limited- in every way. If you have been using a Samsung or iPhone etc, this would a step back and you would feel the inadequacy of the phone. The phone heats up too quick and has a very weak body. I read encountered a display that went terribly awry after a light fall. I did everything in my power to fix it but in vain. I'd suggest buying a quality phone from a reputed brand rather than Motorola, which has clearly gone down in quality.
