My battery is 740 and it is terrible! I've resorted to carrying a second phone when the battery level is left with one bar.
Anyway, I asked Adnan about the differences in the battery covers and he said I'll also need to buy a new cover since indeed the V8 and V9 have different covers. If what you've been told is true then I may have to cancel the order.
I'll go find out and report back.
I was wondering whether the 960mah battery you've ordered is for V8 or V9. I've seen the V9 battery which is slightly thicker and I heard it's with 920 or 960mah as the V8 is running on 720 or 770mah. I've asked the technician and he told me the V9 battery can't fit into V8 because it's too thick. Would appreciate your input. Thanks
To be a little more detailed, you must install the Motorola Phone tool software into your PC to really get your USB connection between PC and your motorola phone to work. It is useful if you have lots of contacts in your microsoft outlook, appointments/reminders in your calendar and tasks. Transferring of data, pictures and music from your PC is also make easy with this connection although most people are getting their songs and pictures via bluetooth from their friend's phone. Your V8 or V9 should have the Motorola Phone tool CD bundled together during purchase, if not, there's a possibility that you purchased your unit from an "unofficial importer", means not thru your local official importer. If you can't find the CD, go to the Motorola phone dealer shop and buy it, they usually stock this CD. It definitely enhances your usability on the phone. Speaking of which, I'm currently connected to the internet and writing this via my V8 connection thru Motorola Phone tool to my notebook running on EDGE speed. It's slower than 3G but with the net speed booster progam assistance, it's not too bad as long as I can get the job done!
No the V8 doesn't come with radio feature, don't blame Motorola for it's design, if you need it and it's a priority to you, go get another brand.
Yes the battery life is nothing to shout about, I managed to solve the problem with car charger, usually one 30 minutes charge, it'll last me through the day. I've a not very good practice, that is I'll charge my phone before I sleep every night irregardless of the battery level. I did it just to ensure my battery have a fresh level in the morning knowing it'll shorten the battery life in the long run. But my priority is not to have a miss call, especially on any opportunity to make money from caring friends or customers spending time calling me instead of others. Anyway, a new battery doesn't really cost much as compared to wasted deals. So again, if you are one of those looking for a "one charge does it all phone", then try Philips brand. Their 9@9 models have a standby duration of 30 days so imagine the talk time.
i mean v8 have the capability of becoming a media storage right? (or am i wrong?). thanks for the reply
what do you mean the usb cable won't work? I take it you've installed the drivers that's why your query isn't so clear. As for the battery most of us are suffering from a shorter standby time, it's the battery. I'm getting the 960mah battery next week as I've ordered one.I suggest you get yourself a higher capacity battery to solve that problem.
can i ask a question my phones usb to pc doesnt work i tried already makig it media storage but it wont work but i can charge and listen music thru my earphones and another one why my battery get empty very fast?

After reading so many "good" & "bad" comments from users or non users from this website about V8 & V9, I've decided to post in mine now.
I bought my V8 about 5 months ago, all in all went back to the Motorola Service Centre about 2 times for help already. Now this may start to sound bad BUT in actual fact I'm going to give you my thumbs up. No, I'm not going to be sarcastic.
1st - I went back to "buy" the battery cover resulting from the black silicone worn off. Initially I used to put this phone in my jeans pocket and being inside my tight pocket and the rough surface, logically the soft silicone layer got worn off from friction after some time. I don't blame the phone design, it's meant for good grip using that material, just that I didn't treasure it. Guess what, the guy at the service centre just change that for me for free! (No warranty on phone cover. Assuming I drop the phone immediately after buying it, it's really not their fault, blame ourselves for carelessness) I was happy of course, I don't need to haggle or make a lot of noise to get it - they just happily change it for me and told me "It's OK sir, there's no charge. I know some guys might say it's because they know it's their design problem, so hey, what if they used plastic or plain metal, then the review would say the phone is too slippery to hold or too plasticky feel. For that I appreciate their thought and didn't compromise on materials - all for us, user's benefit.
2nd - I've used other brands of handphones before until the last 2 units they were Motorolas, my previous one was Z3. My job requires me to travel extensively and believe me, I do know many poor reception "grey spots" area. I happened to pass by this kind of area and my V8's line got cut off during conversation whereas my previous Z3 would only receive line disturbances & regain it's signal without line cut. So I went back to their Service Centre & related the whole story with a little disappointed look. The guy told me give him 10 minutes, I did and he came out telling me he's performed a software upgrade for me & my phone should improve. Personally I have been trying to check from the Motorola website for upgrades but the V8 doesn't show in their menu, only V9. The guy told me being official Motorola Service, they usually have the upper hand on the latest softwares. True enough, my V8's reception has been much much better now I noticed the signal is also much stable than before.
My personal experience, THUMBS UP to their quality product and service. In today's IT / electronic world, manufacturing and maintaining exactly the same standard would be extremely difficult. So I'm not saying those bad feedbacks from some of the reviews here are true or not true. It could be that they are unlucky to get that problem set during purchase. I believe this happens to all other brands too, even cars for that matter. I'm not going to condemn other brands here but instead share with you guys why I select the V8 instead of other brands.
- The internal casing is made of stainless steel, finished with chemically hardened glass that gives that liquid metal look. Can you find another phone manufacturer that put in so much effort to create this phone with such built quality? Hold it in your hand and you could feel just how solid it's built. This was the impression that captured me the first time I tested it.
- The V8's Crystal Talk feature is really impressive. My friend using another well known brand phone which is known for its sound quality was impressed with the clarity of the ear speaker when she borrowed my phone to call her friend. She said it's even clearer and crispier than her phone. I agree, it's even better than the Z3 I owned. My important criteria is clear, undisturbed conversation with my customers during phone business discussions.
- Design, for such a sleek and thin phone, it can cramped in such quality and good materials which is hard to find. Many other brands today are very "plasticky".
So if you think my justification on this phone, V8 or V9, (they are brothers and sisters)as stated above make sense, I believe you'll agree with me. If you like fantastic camera, 3.2Mp & above and fantastic MP3 player in a mobile phone, try something else but you can't get the features I have specified above.
That's the problem with human beings, we all wanted everything but somehow hesitate to pay for it. I would love to have the same too but I learnt to compromise in life. Life is never perfect and fair. Buy it if it makes you happy and move on.
Thanks for reading.
does anyone no of another motorola phone that u can turn the java backlight off?, that is an upgrade of the v3x?
i would buy this phone straight away if i could turn the java backlight off. the motorola v3x can, i dont understand why they dont put this option on the v8. the v8 is like a downgrade compared to the v3x.
