When you video capture and take photos in full screen mode the screen goes into landscape by default. Motorola are now showing details of this phone on their website.
Thanks for the fast response, I'm pretty much falling in love with the phone and I hope it arrives my country soon.
You said camera and video can be viewed fullscreen, is this also true for video/photo capture? I'm keen on the possibility of: navigating through opera/taking pics or vids/surf the phone with the slider closed.
Thanks again for the review and let me know if you know any modding forums, since moto phones are the best once modded.
Dag, This phone does use the new motorola UI it gives you a few more icons lower down the menu structure but its still undeniably Motorola. (For me that's not a problem). You can improve the look of it be choosing a diferent skin if you like. This is of course down to personal preference. I prefer using the Cobalt skin as I feel it compliments the colour of the phone and for me the icons look better.
On this phone the screen resolution is 176*220 although strangely enough this is not mentioned anywhere in the Motorola documentation I got with the phone.
You can navigate with the phone closed. You can also use practically all the features of the phone when it is closed including making and receiving calls (apart from texting of course ;-)).
Other info - as well as a camera button, there is also a smart button which you can configure to any menu item you like. Its default is set as the video option. The video has x4 magnification while the camera option has x8. Viewing video and photos in fullscreen mode puts them into landscape format to utilise the whole screen.
For those of you that are interested, this phone has an SAR of 0.55
I really find your reviews (for those polite enough to provide them) very useful, keep them coming about your personal feeling of this phone.
I still have a couple of doubts.. Does this use the new motorola UI? Or the same we all know? Also, is this 176*220? I thought they had changed that for newer phones.
Is it possible to navigate the phone closed?
Thanks in advance
Barry, You can set the phone to long pulses called 'Vibe Dash' or long and short pulses called 'Vibe Dot Dash'. As far as I know, the intensity of the vibration can't be changed.
Barry, i think motorola doesn't provide any "proof" to anything. but i think nokia's 5500 does have waterproof/dustproof/shockproof. :)
Hello all Barrys back,
Im not concerned about battery life only the vibration fuction interests me.
Can it be set to high, med or low?
Can i set it to pulse?
Does anyone know where i can aquire a waterproof/shockproof/dustproof silicon cover?
Ive seen these on my recent tour to the mobile/fashion capital Prague.
Get back asap.
Concerned Phone Critic.
Glad to see my review is stimulating some healthy discussion! Of course the phone has 2OMB of internal memory (the 20GB was obviously a typo!) And as far as my comments about the comparison of camera quality between the V3i and the Z3 are concerned, I and able to do this objectively because I own and use both phones. Remember, I did not say the camera on the Z3 was the best in the world.
Also remember the context of my review - see the second to last paragraph.
Forgive me if I am wrong but I believe the purpose of these reviews is to give people who don't have the phone an idea of what its like to own and use one. It's pointless coming out with one liners like 'it's bad' without having the evidence to back it up (especially if you don't even own or use the phone in the first place) That doesn't help anyone!!
It would be interesting to hear from anyone else who owns this phone to share their experience with us.
N fyi, he said the camera is much more better than V3i. Not the best cam phone in the market.Read clearly be4 rushing to bash someone.
What he meant by the mp3 player is good is the quality of the sound. He did mention tht the interface for the player is quite basic, which is true.
it have 20mb NOT 20GB, and no the camera its not good at all, and the music player its bad. those are the points i won't agree you. the screen its bad too... for being a top model it doesn't even have QVGA. don't come with stupid things like IT DRAINS MORE BATTERY. because it doesn't matter if you have a good one
nice review, Tundé. have you used a KRZR K1? was wondering if you could compare the two.
This phone is out now in the UK (Carphone Warehouse). I picked it up for £129 on pay as you go but that includes £50 Take5 top up which brings the price to £179. Its still worth it, considering the fact that their phones are unlocked anyway! (You can of course get this phone on contract as well).
What's it like? Well the quality and feel of the phone is impressive. I have the blue colour phone which looks much better in the flesh than in the pictures seen on the Net. It's a cool dark blue which is very nice and has caught many an admiring glance on the train into work.
It has a nice weight to it and it has the same metallic feel as the U6 Pebble. It kind of reminds me of when I first got my Nokia 8850. Those of you who had one will know what I mean! The slide mechanism is very solid smooth and well built. Of my other phones I have a Samsung D800 and LG Chocolate and the slide is way better than both of these. (They have both been consigned to the bottom of my draw now - must stop buying these phones :))The keypad is very nice to use, I think its easier than the v3\V3i.
I have been playing with the features of this phone alot (I've only had it 4 days) and the battery life seems to be very good so far.... its on its second charge now as I type.
The call quality is excellent as is the hands free speaker. No complaints from people saying they can't hear you when your driving. The camera quality is much better than my V3i but then it is 2MP. The video camera is quite good. I say this because when using it in automode at night it can blur when you move it from side to side or follow a subject. If you switch it to night mode this problem disappears!
The MP3 player is actually very good quality and can hold the bass for those of you who like bassy tunes! However the interface is still very basic in my opinion and would probably benefit from the use of the itunes software. I may see if I can down load this from somewhere.
In the box, which itself is quite impressive, you get the phone (or course!) battery, stereo headphones, spare ear bud pads, usb cable, cd, instruction manual and charger BUT NO MEMORY CARD!!! The phone does have 20GB internally though. I had a 1GB mini sd card I got from CPW for £29 so I use that in the phone. This phone has the option to use both the phone and memory card as storage. So when you as looking at files for music, video and pictures you don't have to switch between storage areas.
Now this review is based on the fact that I primarily expect my phones to be able to hold a call and have good call quality. (That and the design). I am not an avid texter although the texting functionality does seem to have improved over the last generation of motorola RAZRs. Any other features about this phone are a bonus to me as I already have a 7.1 MP digital camera & camcorder and a Sony MP3 player which can hold the bassiest of tunes.
I hope you found this review useful. If I have any more updates I'll let y'all know!
"here can't be a decent battery life with 780 mAh baterry on any medium to high resolution color screen!!!"
my KRZR K1 has 700mh battery and gives me a week's worth of standby time. take your stupidity elsewhere.
bluetooth sucks up battery life quick on any phone. thanks for the worthless tip einstein.
There can't be a decent battery life
with 780 mAh baterry on any medium to high resolution color screen!!! Motorola does nto manufacture magic 780 mAh, LOL. Neither Samsung, Sony, Panasonic or Nokia do!
If you want to use a Bluetooth,
then you better make sure the phone has at least , I'll repeat: AT LEAST -1100 mAh!!!)
But 1600 (like in Panasonic's phones) even much better!.
OTHER THAN THAT,
Don't plan on using the phone you are buying with a bluetooth constantly on!
good phone to use,,,,The key pad has improved a lot from the v3 seried
