Anonymous, 11 Sep 2008Thanks for your comments. Always appreciate people to "really share their experience" rather ... moreMany thanks for your compliments. My hats off to you friend, with more experiences than many self-declared Motorola die hard fans here including me, having owned 40 over Motorola phone models yourself - that's what I call experience. Amazing!! I won't be able to catch up with you the rest of my life.
Actually the reason why I gave up V8 for E8 is due to the flip vs. candybar design and of course, the new morphing and tactile keypads. I liked the Linux OS & CrystalTalk too. Many times I carry lots of things with me, my notebook, documents, folders and so on. To me, opening the V8's flip with one hand / thumb is doing the phone injustice & not really good for the phone in the long run and using 2 hands would be tough with all the documents, folder... otherwise V8's fantastic for me.
With 2GB built in & 8GB if we wish, most people would think of storing musics. I'll be storing an additional thing - motivational audios (Robert Kiyosaki, Harv Ekers, Secret...) a couple of my friends & me are into listening CD audios in our cars over & over. If you are into this practice, E8 provides the answer too, out of your car.
Anyway, I liked solidly built phones so Motorola is my only self selected choice.
Stuart, 10 Sep 2008vj,
Just to share my experience with you. I just bought the E8, was using RAZR2 V8 & RIZR Z... moreThanks for your comments. Always appreciate people to "really share their experience" rather than having those MSN type replies.
Anyway, I would recommend E8 for those who
1)Look for music, as it also offers a radio (which V8 doesn't).
2)Longer Battery life, because for those who plays lots of music, longer battery life should be important, and one can just forget about all the hard specs....look at the screens for E8 vs. V8, which is larger? Larger screens obviously drain more battery power.
3)External memory capability, 8GB for E2 (plus 2GB built-in, that makes this under USD$300 device actually supports 10GB of memory!)
For the rest, V8 should be the better choice. The slightly better voice quality is likely due to the flip design...famous for Moto, which filters out more background noise. (Not that E8 is bad either...because any Moto phone can beat the ___ out of certain music brand's phones in terms of voice quality)

Just to share my experience with you. I just bought the E8, was using RAZR2 V8 & RIZR Z3 before and I'm a Motorola supporter.
Both are supposed to be the same (CrystalTalk) but I noticed the V8's slightly clearer. It's so marginal that I'm not surprised if someone will disagree with me here but this is my personal observation. Could be my ears playing tricks on me. I said this because I was still having my previous V8 with me after getting the E8, so I checked them out. Don't get me wrong, the E8's still very good, I just wanna compared them & put that into my personal record.
This is very individual. My preference - the V8 AT PRESENT (with conventional keypad). I like the tactile keypad feel of E8 so I guess it's a matter of time that I'll get used to it. I'm already much better with it as I write now, much better than when I first got my unit. E8's morphing keypad with haptics feedback are revolutionary in phone industry so if you're a really fast texter using conventional keypad, you'll be slowed down a little with this but the way I see it, no big deal, you'll still get the job done. Just that in the near future, you'll still be a fast texter & get the job done - in style.
E8 for sure. either using the back speaker or earphone, the E8 wins, hands down. Different league here.
BATTERY LIFE (Added for your info)
The specs stated that E8's talk time is 6 hours and V8's almost 8 hours. I found out from actual physical usage, the E8 lasted longer than V8. I just used my E8 the way I used my V8 based on normal daily usage pattern and found that E8 lasted longer, unfortunately I didn't record the hours. I believe the talktime stated was based on certain number of hours allocated for music use for E8 since it's a dedicated music phone. E8's battery - 970Mah & V8's 740Mah.
As you can see, I sounded like I still prefer V8 BUT I believe in adapting to new technologies. So I don't regret buying the E8 at all, in fact I'm enjoying it now. Just like when I first got my 02 XDA 1 PDA phone in 2002 when it first launched, the technology was also revolutionary back then running on Windows Mobile touch screen and I've been using PDA phones until today - yes, I carry 2 phones to work everyday.
Final decision lies in your hands. Only you will know which one you like. Hope the above helps in your decision making, Good luck.

Anonymous, 09 Sep 2008Just curious exactly what are the problems that caused your customers to return 100% of their ... moreThat's a good overview. Nowadays there are so many ways to come up with "lower grade" phones that I start to wonder where did the used, traded-in phones gone. Imagine the volume worldwide and not to mentioned imitations by some countries. Phone covers are sold openly everywhere so the real valuable item is actually the internal components which can be "re-dressed" again & sold as new maybe or sold cheap via internet?
I've just got my E8 not long, so far nothing's gone wrong yet - keypad is alright, voice quality is superb, music quality is excellent. So Mike has brought up the problem, it's good for us users to monitor whether that happen to our units and I believe Mike brought it up with good intention, however, please Mike, don't involve your ex-girlfriend in this review again. (LOL)

The faults have been software related and one where the keys just wouldn't work (probably software as well) When you get every phone you sell returned it gives you no confidence recomending them to anyone.

I sell phones for a living so my opinions are based ... moreJust curious exactly what are the problems that caused your customers to return 100% of their E8's? Can you elaborate?
The phone was released in May in Hong Kong, and I've never heard of anyone has any problem which makes them to return any unit at all...including myself, as I bought mine (for my wife) in May.
Or else, where did you source your phones from? Directly from Moto or someone else? If latter, maybe parts / accessories got exchanged without your knowledge.
Or else, tell me where your shop is so I can try a "bad" E8...

I sell phones for a living so my opinions are based on personal experience and this phone has a 100% return rate in my store and just like my ex they are extremely hard to get rid of.
