Thanks Dave for your great comments!
It was said that first models would not have EDGE support but that those comming out in December will have it. Thus I am wondering whether they included it already or is it postponed.
I guess if it has EDGE it should clearly be stated in the manual...
Thanks for all that additional info Dave :) The phone looks like a beaut!
EDGE support is a wireless data transfer protocol that's much quicker than GPRS. And unless you have a phone plan that comes w/an excellent data package, it's really useless otherwise since you could just wait to go online when you get to a computer...(I'm sure, though, a big EDGE fan may be able to correct me on its usefulness tho :P)
Me again, I really should just write everything in one post!!
Anyway, if you grab the vodafone choice magazine (in vodafone stores I guess) it lists the SLVR as being £160 handset only or free on any contract on page 24 - it also says "Coming Soon". Imo I find it a bit hard to believe that price so if you can get your hands on one, they have to sell it for that. The Razr shows as being £200 handset only and as the Slvr is newer, something's not quite right!
If anyone is after specific pictures of the phone, post up and I'll do my best :-)
aha - it looks like you cant transfer the stuff that comes with the phone - I've just taken a photo of my pc monitor and it's happy sending that... :)
just a quickie here - the bluetooth seems to be deliberately crippled, either that or I'm a mong and can't use the phone properly. I can't seem to send files via bluetooth or do a search for phones with bluetooth enabled... what gives? is this something the Razr does too or is this phone 'special' ?
To answer the few questions, it's not sluggish - but that's comparing it to the C500 and a nokia 3230 which were both lethargic in the speed stakes, as for forgetting anything - I've not really had the need to take the battery out and the iTap T9-esque interface has come up trumps every time I've used it. As for the MP3 player, I've heard it's meant to use bluetooth headphones although some of the packshots of the Razr show that it comes with USB headphones, and the Slvr has a usb charging jack on the side (which could be dual purpose as on the Razr - it's currently charging on the photos of mine)
As for edge support - I'm not sure what that is so I can't really help - this is the first motorola phone i've had :-) hope this helps!
And, to prove that I'm not talking out of my rear orifice - here's some photos of it that I've just taken alongside my SPV C500 - clearly showing the vodafone UK operator logo and the vodafone branding on the battery cover.

:)
Yep it's on contract, 200 mins and 250 texts for 30 quid per month, 18 month contract and the terms are for life.
I bought mine at the Gateshead Metrocentre branch of the Vodafone shop, so whoever is saying that vodafone reckon there's none around is talking poop - imo...
its vodafone, they say anything to keep customers happy!!
Really thinking of getting this through Vodafone. I'm a current v3 owner... can anyone tell me if.
a) Its as sluggish somtimes as the v3?
b) When the batterys removed for a while it forgets all the spellings you've inputed?
c) Is there a headset/port for the mp3 player??.. if not... how is the mp3 player to be used?

Vodafone UK have just told me that NO stock has arrived for ANY vodafone stores in the UK. Claiming that delivery is now out to 7th December even for those ordered online. Whos bullsh*tting here? Is it Vodafone or what???
Anyone has any info about the EDGE support? It was supposed to have EDGE in December 2005, but since it just came out, will the EDGE version be postponed?
Walked into the local Vodafone? Did you have to get a contract for it?? The lady at my local Vodafone said that they would only have it on contract for quite some time :(
Thanks for that info, though, Dave!
Just finished downloading the latest iTunes and it doesn't recognise the slvr at all. Of course, windows complains too as I don't have a memory card inserted and I know the rokr can only save iTunes stuff to memory card...
Additional - I'm in the UK, walked into my local Vodafone shop and they had two in stock. The lass said they only arrived yesterday...
Got the phone today, it's in my sweaty lil mitts as I type (well - on the pc infront of me!) and I don't think we'll be seeing iTunes on it - at least not in the first release software version. FYI the version of mine is R4513_G_08.B7.5DR_RB and although the player supports MP3 files, there's no provision for anything external. I'm currently downloading iTunes to see if it recognises the phone when plugged in through USB but I've got a while to wait yet - will post back with info as and when I find it :)
stunning looking phone, weighs nowt and is so easy to operate (although as I've come from using a smartphone, brain surgery would be trivial!)
this phone is out on vodafone in UK
Can anyone confirm:
-the Bluetooth version?
-If it has Voice dial?
-Is it able to act as a Plug and Play thumbdrive?
looks like there may be a shortage of these phones? The delivery date on Amazon has been put back until next year now - it was originally supposed to arrive before christmas?!
Does anybody have the retail version of this phone, or only prototypes. I know Vodafone and Telefone Italia Mobile has it. Please let me know.
thanks
