But in daylight its considerably good. Only when you view them @ full resolutions you will notice the bubble jet/ oil paint like effect. But the pic quality of ZN5 can be compared to some other 5-7MP Digital cameras. The color reproduction is very natural...

n's, 20 May 2009led flash not strong enough to beat xenon flash...what meaning RAW mode?"The advantage of the RAW format is that it contains much more data, in other words tiny details, which stand for greater image adjustability at a later stage when the data are submitted into a graphics editor; photos saved as JPEG or TIFF files can’t offer all the editing opportunities that come with a RAW file. If you are using RAW image acquisition, you can adjust parameters like white balance and ISO any time after the image has been saved. RAW files converted into JPEGs with a professional PC software suite provide much more detail than JPEGs created using the regular post-processing routine ran by your cell phone’s CPU after the moment of image acquisition. These algorithms, just like any other converters, rebuild the missing colors by applying a colored RGB filter to each cell of the matrix. After that, the resulting color of each pixel is calculated from the colors of neighboring matrix cells to which the filter was applied (this process is called RAW interpolation). An inevitable loss of data occurs when RAW files are converted into JPEGs, so there’s no way to rebuild a RAW from its JPEG descendant. Different compression levels stand for different amount of detail preserved in the final file and different filesize. Moderate compression makes an image appear as almost indistinguishable from the original RAW file to the human eye, especially after the picture gets resized and printed."
"There’s no way to print RAW images directly, they look as black and white pictures although in fact use a 12-bit encoding. Here comes the weird discovery: Motorola ZN5 produces 8-bit raw images, and those are immediately saved in the memory as TIFF files. That’s why RAW is but a marketing slogan following ZN5 all the way long, while the handset can’t take any real RAW shots at all."
"The TIFF file format is the result of compressing RAW data using a less cruel algorithm than JPEG employs, which results in compressed images with almost the same high level of detail preserved, which isn’t bad at all: you won’t find such a feature in any other phone no matter how hard you try. The images equally appear as black-and-white pictures, you must have a good command of PC graphics editing software to restore the colors. In comparison with the regular JPEGs, the level of detail is much higher, and the color palette is all up to you to play with and make adjustments."

I'm not in the UK but the phone's ability to keep signal should be present in all regions.
It does have a lock, just below the volume key, it's rather convenient, you can easily access to it with your thumb and it blocks all features (camera, calling, etc).
Regarding texting, the input is very fast, no lags, and very intuitive (iTap method, similar to T9 on the Sony models) . As I said, keyboard takes a bit to get used to, but once you get the hang of it, it's very easy.

Alexander Dembovsky’s take on the ZN5."mobile review"
The Motorola ZN5’s results in our RMAA tests can be easily compared with music players from top manufacturers, including Apple, Samsung and Creative – the fact of the matter is that there is only a handful of handsets that fare just as well on this front. The standard 3,5 mm jack also adds to the ZN5’s brilliance of sound, as it allows to avoid accidental signal distortions. Plus, the handset’s tweaked software allocates more resources to sound processing.
On the other hand, though, passing our battery of tests with flying colors doesn’t necessarily mean the phone’s real sound will appeal to everyone – some deemed it a tad too heavy or, on the contrary, lackluster In these cases, you can opt for equalizers or, which I personally find more suitable, good custom earphones befitting your music style. The Z’s output signal strength is pretty decent too, which enables it to handle most professional headphones.

I just got the phone last week and here are some true, insightful comments on this amazingly gorgeous phone ;-)
First of all, signal strength is amazing! I previously owned a motorola V9 , which was good with signal already but, because of where I live, it came and went (a bit annyoingly, I must say) . Now I **always** have signal, and what's more cool, 90% of the time full bars.
Call quality is superb, like they named it.. it's crystal clear, loud and crisp.
That alone should encourage you to buy it, it's a phone what you're buying after all!
Design is exquisite, the materials involved are very high quality, and it feels awesome in hand, I have large hands and I feel very comfortable with it. You should treat it carefully though, as with any other gadget, it's exposed to peeling or scratches, but it's sturdy enough to carry around in your jeans pocket.
Camera is very nice and fast, I'm no professional photographer but all I say is I took some shots when clubbing last night and the outcome was sharp pictures in a near-pitch dark environment thanks to the very potent xenon flash. Another feature you might like is the speed, between shots you don't have to wait more than 2 seconds, so you won't miss "that" special pic, and I think that's rather important.
Now my favorite part about this phone. Music department. Genius. Audio spaciation will bring out details on your songs that you've never heard before. It's a whole new level for music lovers, plus you've got the preset equalizers and bass control. 3.5mm jack means you can enjoy even more with your own fancy headphones, but I found myself loving the ones included with the phone. They're that good.
Video is lackluster, but I have hopes that this will be corrected in the near future. Keypad is a bit tricky for the first days but you'll be fine after that period. Phone menu is very responsive and fast, no lags or freezing so far, and the multitasking is nice (i.e. listening to music while texting and sending a file via bluetooth) .
Any other questions, feel free to ask, I highly recommend this phone for all the points mentioned above.
