i'd just like to say that ignorance is the topic here ,this website is designed so that people can come on and make comments about the use of their phones good & bad the company knows that we are having these problems issues so why no instead of playing ignorant come clean and tell us how to use the dam thing up load download cable format blue tooth infra red picture and formats and end the dilema either that refund everyone or exchange for a phone that should do what it says it does on the box. my opinion i think we,ve been ripped off people. you count all the hundreds thousands maybe even millions of pounds spent around the world on something that doesnt perform let alone work half the time i think its time we protested and did something about it.all those in favour say i.
ok people... alot of you are having trouble with downloading mp3, heres what to do.
first if your downloading from the i mode dont try using mp3 ringtones or truetones these wont work you have to download a video ringtone in order to use the truetone as a ringtone. dont bother trying to use the software because ive tried it myself and like alot of you it dos'nt work.. the other way to get mp3 files onto your phone is simply using ir ports however with the limited memory space some files may be too big to use eg( gems sorry) most phones wont let you transfer songs in ther first place but most erics will transfer mp3 with no hassle...
the big problem here is the memory if nec update this phone they better make sure they jump this hurdle so not to let its customers down again.
i like this phone but improvements are needed.
Hello again. My brother in law has just bought one of these from the same shop on the same day and his software worked instantly with no problems. I have used his disk to download his software but still cannot get the software to connect to the phone. His PC is similar spec but he is running XP version 2002 Service pack 2 whereas I am running XP version 2002 service pack 1.
I Would be interested to see if anyone who has posted on this site is using pack 1. Perhaps this is the problem?
What I can say is that my phone will connect and download no problems on his machine so it's NOT A PHONE PROBLEM!!!!!
If anyone left still cares about this issue and is still checking this forum then feel free to contact me.
To check your XP version go to the start button-settings-control panel-system.
Your version will be displayed here. At least by posting yours and saying if you have a problem perhaps some useful will come of your good deed.
I will post any further useful info here if I get it as I know how problems like this can really annoy.
I simply cannot get the file sharing software supplied with this phone to work. Like many other previous posters here, the USB port is recognising the phone is connected but the NEC Mobile Suite Software just does not want to recognise the phone, keeps coming up with "Check NEC Mobile suite & phone language" warning.
I bought this phone to download photo's and to transfer MP3 files but it simply doesn't do that. They are being sold very cheap after their release a few months ago. What does that tell you.
If anyone here can help I'd be extremely grateful for any help. For those thinking of buying, think more than twice. A half decent phone let down by hopeless software. I haven't tried the O2 staff yet but I guess it's worth a go. If I get any joy I will post back here with the info.
COME ON PEOPLE. WE CAN DO THIS................can't we?????
it aint a bad phone for the price but the problem i have is with the volume even when set to loudest its very low

Hi just thought i would say i am glad people are trying htis phone out, i downloaded some videotones today so when people ring me the video plays with the music so mp3 ringtones are a thing of the past. Kirsty, if you don't like the phone. Tough. I like it and personally think it is excellent. Why did you not research this phone in the first place. It is totally your fault.
The software will not allow me to transfer MP3 Files and the phone is saying it is in the wrong format can anyone help me?
Message back or e-mail!
Absolutely fantastic phone.... The I-mode on this is brilliant and you can now view ebay on the phone. Great for such a shopaholic like me. Camera really good aswell.
Hi, it does state when u read the pdf to ignore the warning sign........and i downloaded the software from the link someone put earlier with no problem its just an earlier version of whats on the cd though. Email me if you want and i will try and help further as i recommend this phone 100% and have actually ditched my samsung e530 as i prefer this one and amd buying one for my nephew and daughter tomoz......and for £49.99 if u trade in an old phone at an o2 shop at the moment how can you go wrong. Ellie x x last time gonna post on here though so email me if u want.
Thanks for your offer of assistance. I agreee it is a superb phone for the price, but I am still having difficulty in installing the Mobile Suite software on either of my pcs.
I have Windows XP on one pc. On trying to instal the software on it, a warning appears advising that the software has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatability with Windows XP, and that continuing the installation may impair or destabilise the system. I have not therefore proceeded any further using the disc. I have also tried to download the software from the NEC site several times over the past couple of weeks. Each time I get the message "Internet Explorer cannot download usb.zip from www.neceurope.com. Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found". This is despite using the link from the NEC site.
I then tried to instal it on a second pc, which runs onWindows Me. The software appeared to instal successfully on it. However, when connecting the phone to the pc using the USB supplied, and trying to download, I get the message "PHONE NOT CONNECTED." However, the connection is obviously is OK as, if the phone switched off , it powers on as soon as the USB is connected.
I have tried to get assistance at the 02 shop without success. They suggested ignoring the warning on the XP pc, and continue to instal. I am not willing to take up this recommendation. Why has it not passed the Windows testing?
Any help you, or anyone else can provide would be appreciated, as I am seriously thinking about returning the phone unless I get this resolved.
Hi ya, me again.......... i have got home from work and reinstalled the software and managed to transfer my pics to and from my pc. Transfer mp3 ringtones from my pc to the phone which play and a whole mp3 song. so if anyone wants help email me i will do my best to help u. this phone is getting better by the day and i sold 12 today at work. Ellie x x
Hi, i still dont think people are crasping the concept of the price and functions here, i got one myself yesterday........and yeh i have been trying to sort the software out which is very tricky so will get on to customer services when i get in to work today and try and sort this out and let u all know how to do it. and yes i work for o2.....And now what do u expect for the price? the imode function itself when used properly is enough to warrant buying this phone....and i work with these phones everyday so what ones are worth having. any questions let me know? Ellie x x
I got the NEC N411i i was very excited and i got it today! i used it for an hour and got bored i was disspointed with the bluetooth and had no warning what so ever it was only for a head set ! Further on i realised the mp3 ringtones i cant have them either i was dissapointed and im sending it back to O2 tomorrow and getting a samsung which had 4x the memory betetr pictures BLUETOOTH and a video that lasts !!!
Like Chris (28/12/05), I am having problems installing the Mobile Suite. I have installed the NEC mobile drive and software but when I connect the phone the computer still says PHONE NOT CONNECTED. The NEC suite just says that the phone should be the same language as the suite itself. I have also tried downloading the software from the NEC site in case there is a problem with the disc, but the software site always crashes. I have tried to instal on 2 pcs using XP and Me.
I have contacted O2 and NEC but they have been of no help.
I am getting rather frustrated. Can anyone help me?
