terrible phone. the worst handset i have ever had. The handset looks fantastic, i have had lots of people comment on the look of the handset and indeed it looks gorgeous, however when you want to make to recieve a phone call this is where the problems lie.
signal bar never gets above 2 but normally sits on 1. when i speak to people most of the time they barely hear me, or i cannot hear them and it drops calls extremly easily.
If im on a street standing within visual distance of a phone mast then it ok, if you are in a building, any building in or around London (at least the areas i frequent) forget it.
Do yuorself a favour, stick with a Nokia, i used an old beaten Nokia 3100 as a loan phone when this rubbish was in for repair, i could not fault it, lovely.
Great phone. Possibly the best I've had in a long history of budget phones. The features for me are perfect. What would make it even more perfect for me is if they got rid of the camera. Unless the camera quality is of sufficient level on a phone, they should just be left off. The three things that make this phone the perfect one for me:
1. The hardware and "feel" of the phone - the keys are perfect. You can type text messages really fast without being 3 words ahead all the time (hang your head in shame sony ericsson).
2. Imode.. initially very sceptical about this, but it blows the socks off wap. The big attraction for me is that you can receive emails for free, and it gives an alert when it gets one, without having to be logged into the browser. I don't have broadband at home, and this phone is a lifesaver for me... I have all my gmails forwarded into my imail address automatically, and can read and reply if I need to, even when roaming on the continent.
3. The design... just look at it. It's very slim, and fits into the pocket perfectly
My three gripes are small, and are as follows:
1. Text messages - it doesn't have any apostrophes marks in the T9 input. So when you want to type "you've", you have to type you first, then dial in the ' , and then type in the ve. But of a pain.
2. The ringer volume is not very loud.
3. The internal layout is a little clunky - could have been a bit more streamlined
Overall, this is a great phone. I have already on my second, as my first was robbed, and I immediately went out and bought the same again.
Best phone I have ever had. Outperforms a Sony Ericsson K700i. The NEC has better hardware, better software, better design. Well done NEC!!!
well i have read all 10 pages and i am still stuck. i cant get this phone installed properly on my computer. i am using windows xp, and i have the drivers and also the handset manager.
questions for anyone who has done this successfully; what does the phone show up as in the device manager? some kind of modem? a nec port? or just a usb device? i have had all of these listed and i just cant get it to work. i need to do this to rescue my phonebook because the screen is broken.
alternatively could anyone post step by step instructions of how to copy my phonebook from the phone memory to the sim without seeing the screen? i need it to be absolutely precise.
any help would be great!
Having read a few bad reviews, I was slightly apprehensive about taking delivery of this phone. I've now had it for a week and have had no problems with it at all - no dropped calls, perfect signal and the battery life is good
For this price I would not expect it to have Bluetooth or Infrared and I use it with my PC (I downloaded the software from the NEC website and use the USB cable from my digital camera).
The camera is suprisingly adequate (considering it is 0.75mp and takes pictures at 640x480). The phone is easy to use and despite my cynicism of the i-mode feature I have found it to be an improvement on WAP.
It looks like I got a good one as it seems other people have been having trouble. It's a great phone for 40 quid and what you see is what you get - you don't get advanced features for this price and that suits me down to the ground!
A budget phone that is well worth considering.
I was in Great Britain on holiday and I bought NEC N343i because it looks nice and is so slim. I really like this phone, The camera make so wonderful photos. I have`nt had any problems with.
Do not buy this phone,
I bought two, one for myself an one for my partner. Both have had sim problems from month 2, it keeps sayin sim card error.
It seems like a good deal at first retailing at just 50quid, but who wants to throw 50 quid away? Realistically I didnt expect much for so little, but i did expect a working phone.
Be warned this fone is only worth filling the void when u have had enough of your current phone.
My house got robbed and mobile stolen. O2 were awsome and are sending me this phone and a new SIM for free. Unfortunately the phone is about as boring a design as has ever been seen outside certain communist Eastern European states. It looks rubbish, I just hope it works better than it appears, I shall be splashing out on a decent phone a.s.a.p.
the shape of the phone and every other things is really good, but what i don't like about the phone is that, there is no blue tooth or infrared, that is too bad for the phone not to have, i hope nec is going to have a rethink about the phone nec n343i.
well im thinking of buting thos fone but i dunno if i shood so can some1 tell me if its good or not and why??
thanx and tell me wat colour looks good??
thanx bye cya
hey i just read the review and its says its got video i hav ths fone but im certain it doesnt hav video am i just stupid or is it a typing error???

Just 79 euro, slim design, good software and i-mode support. How to ask for more?
The nec n343i is an updation to the well known N342i but this one is in a stylish sophiscated slim form of design and adding a high quality video recorder on the N343i vanished the N342i off the market!
*stylish slim & compact candybar design
*Built in video recorder with zoom function
*VGA camera with night mode, zoom & effects
*Large 1.7inch display(65,000) colours,CSTN technology
*ease to use 5 way navigation
*JAVA & 1.3 dynamic memory
There is a new model NEC 131i which is going to replace this in may. Does Anyone have any pics of it?
Excellant phone, very happy with it, does everything that a 'phone' should, which is make calls. Very modern design and very cheap
Carmen. there are no antenna attachments for this phone. If you are moving to a poor network area i suggest you change to vodafone.
Hey It is my birthday next saturday (I would ask if u could all say happy birthday as a comment b4 then plz) I was going to purchase this fone (NEC N343i) but after reading these comment i am not so sure any more but wat i really want to no is exactly y this fone has got such bad reviews wat exactly is wrong with it and should i still by it
