AnonD-43136, 09 Nov 2014Now that's impressive especially with all the bloatware - I somehow doubt that it will be bug ... moreThe G3 has no blotware, you have an option to download and install. Other then that it's just the apps you choose to have in your phone from the playstore.
G3 is the cleanest blotfree phone I've used since LG Optimus 5 II. Even that phone was great.

It means the it will stay at at 4.4.3 even when it has an update with the same security patchs as 4.4.4.
So in short has everything 4.4.4 has but will leave the numbers at 4.4.3, so heartbleed is covers and anything else.

The bugfix 4.4.4 has is the CVE-2014-0224 (aka OpenSSL HeartBlead) which is something you really don't want to leave unpatched (specially after it has been demonstrated that, unlike the initial reports, it can be exploited also on clients -- not just servers).

There's nothing "Nexus 5 specific" in that (which by the way, the similarities between the 2 are more than just on paper... but that's totally irrelevant for the matter).

Those decimals can (at times, like this particular instance) be very significant. Everyone who knows a thing about security for sure wants this decimal!

I am baffled how you even attempted to downplay this major issue and attempted to missguide users claiming it was a "device specific bugfix". Shame on you!

To be specific, 4.4.4 addressed a security issue, so it was software, not hardware. As we know, LG takes care of the software on the G2 but Google does it for the Nexus line. The security issue is not present on the G2 or G3, hence there is no need to update it.

So no, 4.4.4 will NOT help your G2/G3 run any faster, smoother, or add any value to your phone. It was simply a security patch and nothing more.

Honestly, don't just update for the sake of update. Just because it has a higher decimal number doesn't mean it will be better for your phone. Heck, I don't even update most of my apps unless I see something I need. "Adding support for Hindi language" is something I don't need.

By the way, LG does minor updates their by way of a letter in their firmware. i.e. v20h, v20i, v20j, etc. On the G3, it is currently on v10n and from people over at the android forums, they said it's the same as 4.4.4. but LG just keeps it at number at 4.4.2 and change the letter of their firmware instead.

Sure, one could argue that maybe (JUST MAYBE) LG fixed those issues first on the LG G2 and only then sent the fixes to Google (thus mainline 4.4.4 is actually the 4.4.2 of LG), but unfortunately there is nothing concrete to substantiate those claims.

I don't understand this need to "chase" for the latest updates, especially very minor ones. When Lollipop rolls out, I will wait at lease a month to update simply because there will be bugs or app incompatibilities. You all can test it for me and let me know how it goes. :P

Maybe this has something to do with that deal that went down between LG and Google recently.
If I were Google, I'd do something to make sure that none of the other OEMs pushed the latest Android version out before I did.
