Yeah, DxOMark is a joke. The Nokia 808 and 1020 are so far beyond any other camera ever put in a phone and serious photography review sites have demonstrated this repeatedly.
They have sensors that are (physically) five times bigger than any other phone. The fact that the 808 is ranked 7th and the 1020 11th is ridiculous. All other phones don't even belong on the same scale with the 808 and 1020. And they've got the Xperia Z3 and Z2 ranked better, which pretty much all reviews found to be a disappointment.
Anyway, it's stupid to pretend that you can turn evaluations of cameras into some sort of numerical objective measurement. DxOMark does not reflect what any professional photograher could demonstrate.
DxOMarks' testing methods are also not transparent and apparently have been shown to be biased toward certain manufacturers. The way they test cameras tends to make certain equipment look better (in their non-objective "measurements") and others look worse. But that's just hocus pocus numbers that they make up, to promote their software. They don't reflect the practical results at all.
You really have to take DxOMarks's ratings as a PR tool for their company, not as meaningful analyses of cameras.
I will also say that it's typical that GSMArena reports this kind of PR fluff as if it's news and does the bidding of business looking for free advertising, without any critical thought or skepticism.
James, 14 Nov 2014I'm sorry, but no one except its few rabid fans take Windows phones seriously. And neither Goo... moreWtf, regardless of phone popularity, Dxomark should still give reviews with the least amount of bias! Even tech reviewers like Engadget deem the Nexus 6's camera as average only.
Steve Max, 14 Nov 2014The fact that this list isn't topped by the Nokia 808 and 1020 means it can't be taken serious... moreI'm sorry, but no one except its few rabid fans take Windows phones seriously. And neither Google nor Apple take Microsoft seriously as a rival in the market for mobile devices.
Microsoft had already admitted defeat by porting Office to iOS and Android, because the 'Office is a killer app that's exclusive to Windows phones!' thing didn't work too well when it comes to enticing users of Apple and Android devices to switch to Windows.
So... good luck Microsoft. Now that you've culled the Nokia brand from the Lumia phones, even fewer people are going to care about Windows phones.
The fact that this list isn't topped by the Nokia 808 and 1020 means it can't be taken seriously. Those may not be the best phones out there, but their cameras are still a few steps ahead of everything else on the market.
Putting the iPhone ahead of the Android competition is not as ridiculous, but still it's a major flaw of the list.
Hardly a surprise, if people actually kept aside the unimpressive battery life tests, the camera is actually right up there with the best. Only rabid haters would say the Nexus 6 is't a good snapper in decent light conditions. Low light no major phone is good, most of them are total rubbish, except for PV080, L1020 and Lumix CM1.
You want a serious camera phone? Look no further than Lumix CM1 but the price to pay is not just cost but the bulk.
Working Element, 14 Nov 2014Totally paid...Even all major phone reviewers including gsmarena always mention Nokia Phones w... moreOh c'mon Poor Fandroid get over it...you can't accept the fact that ur precious laggy phone and has a high numbers of mp cam was beaten by 8mp only...haha getover it dude... now those hu look dwn iPhone and the 8mp camera what can u say now?
What ever u are bubblying about ur phones camera is still beaten by 8mp camera and the 2012 specs phone as most of iPhone haters says... lol
its a biased Apple review. theres no way the iphone 6 has better camera than a Z3. i have a S5 and thats good. but this is bull.
guys relax. DxO usually posts numbers of cameras, lenses etc. they are just numbers. these sum up to a ranking in which some cameras/phones have more points than others. iphones have good overall cameras, but are not best in each category. that is why they lead that ranking. if you do an actual real-live comparison of the current phones (mostly flagships), you will find totally different results. so while iphones are on the top, they are NOT at all the best. just because they're sold in packs, doesn't make them the best out there.
Anonymous, 14 Nov 2014This test is meaningless, the HTC One M8 has best camera. Ultrapixel rules.Nice joke! Please one more! XD
Anonymous, 14 Nov 2014Are they sure note4 is not in the list? Nope Note 4 and even LG G3 are not on that list.
Anonymous, 14 Nov 2014DxOMark gives their rating on PER PIXEL basis. So yeah iPhones do get 82 for still images but ... moreYeah that's a pretty stupid system that is heavily biased in favor of iPhones. I'll just wait until gsmarena and other more reliable sites test the camera. But it's still good news that the nexus 6 seems to have a good camera :-)
This test is meaningless, the HTC One M8 has best camera. Ultrapixel rules.
Of course the results are biased to maximum. No other i would trust except GsmArena as it regards comparisions and quality levels of anything
DxOMark is useless. It shows the Xperia on the top while all the reviews say otherwise.
Totally paid...Even all major phone reviewers including gsmarena always mention Nokia Phones while comparing Camera Shootout and Nokia Lumia always topped the list and here no sign of any Nokia Lumia...
Or it can be a paid review by apple so that they can push the sales of Iphones what they lost during Bandgate time..Please do a fair comparison. Thanks
Agreed, iPhone 6 scored 82 points but now the question is where does Nokia Lumia 1020 & Nokia PureView 808 stand in this comparison? Do you mean iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 plus is superior to these Nokia phones? Aren't you biased? Safely excluding these Nokia phones to prove superiority of iPhones.
