Anonymous, 18 Nov 2014Nokia is not doing phone if you didn't realize and they are probably not having Google service... moreNokia N1 has full Google services (sadly) but no, they aren't making phones ever again.

Samsung has too many models and buyers get lost among them. If they cut 50% of its portfolio, no one will notice.

Simple product portfolio (One or Two Major devices), consistently updating software, no frequent cannibalisation, good after sale support, ensure resale value of their own products, optimisation of cost, practical innovation that can make big difference for consumers, resist the temptation to address all segments and miserably fail in controlling the proliferation of various products and unmanaged support (gives rise to dissatisfied customers)....this cost oriented battle is a bottomless pit while they need to retain decent margin, they must stop incremental updates...

They really need to invest on radical products instead of copying Apple or Google....They have the ability but do they have the courage!?

Maybe its time to only bring say 2 or 3 phones a year. And concentrate on not flooding the market with mid to low devices. me personally love Samsung and have had S4, Note 2, on a S5 and love each device. But there are a bit similar. Sorry Samsung.

Entry level and midrange? Guess that leaves out the upper end. Still, Samsungs assortment in the upper end - the S5 and Note 4 - would benefit from ADD of a Note 4 WITHOUT THE PEN at $200 less.

AnonD-77464, 18 Nov 2014People getting happy about less choice. Good.More like less "wilderness of choices" - if you're buying an Android phone(I'm not).

Samsung sells so many rubbish phones it's surprising this didn't happen sooner. Flagships with bland design and mediocre mid ranges designed to look like the flagships. Let's not even talk about how laggy TouchWiz is.

As much as I would like to see Sammy die, I do have to admit that this, finally, is a smart move from them. It's a good idea to halt their production to an extent, yes focus on entry level and mid range devices and make them bloody good, then just produce one or max two flagships again with good specs and better than that proper pricing in which Sammy sucks. And focus on the design for Pete's sake.
Note 4 is a bang up job, that otta hold the postion of the high end smartphone for some time, now focus on the other stuff.
Hoping for a change.

No wunder, only an idiot CEO would have this big portfolio. They got lost in the translation....

What they should do
- start making nice phones (htc, ishi--t, motorola, z3 chinese guys some of them, etc.)
- at least use quality plastic, that looks premium feel and touch
- make their UI Touch Wizzz lighter and again lighter

note4, s5- why there is no 32g/ 64g dual sim versions readily availabe?
why not make some "shorter" non 16:9 phone. 1.5:1 is best.
i want to spend on another samsung device, but nothing is good enough yet
good to see tab market is moving back to 4:3, samsung is slow.
4:3 amoled screen would be amazing.

Samsung customers not happy. Samsung investors not happy. Samsung shareholders not happy. Samsung board members not happy. Samsung CEO not happy.

But don't worry guys, Samsung fanboys will come and tell you how this is GREAT news and how ignorant everyone else is.
