they do need to drop some of their line up for sure, streamline is needed, should have 2-3 low range, 2-3 midrange and 2 flagships per year and 3 tablet options, 1 in the low range, 1 in the mid range and one high end. and cut the other 10-15+ varients of average models and focus on development rather then throwing bits together...

Samsung has so over used the Galaxy design that I have lost all of my interest in any Samsung phones. Samsung seems so boring these days.

You'll lost a potential customers if you deny their input
And you'll lost a market if you can't maintain your service (including satisfaction)

      Samsung never learned from Nokia.
You can't flooding the market without specific product and same design from entry level to flagship.

You already knew why nokia was fallen and why iphone 5c can't success.

Well you can't compete with just saying ignorance is a bliss

Sorry to say to you Samsung

You worthed to take a pride with brand Tag Shamesung

Anonymous, 18 Nov 2014Samsung is going down!! They only have big market share on low end and mid range phones... ... moreI will respond to the inane comments later

Samsung make too many variants of a phone which simply flood the market and can't sell in huge numbers

A perfect example of this is the Samsung Galaxy Alpha which is stands heads & shoulders above the iphone6.

Samsung proved it could make a better iPhone than even Apple the Alpha specs put the iPhone6 to shame

Samsung only error was to "copy" Apple and drop memory expansion, a rare thing for Samsung

Apple wrong-footed Samsung in ditching the 32Gb iPhone, meaning the Alpha was only in competition with the 16Gb iPhone. A 32Gb Alpha is no good if you want 64Gb

Samsung to compete with the entire IPhone range have gad to release TWO variants which have memory expansion but are not challenging the flagship status of the Alpha

In 2015 there has to be a switch with the Alpha two gaining memory expansion and these 2014 variants either becoming say 32Gb non expandable or being dropped

The iPhone6 is the iPhone5 with a larger display and Apple pay
It has taken TWO YEARS or 730 DAYS for Apple to make the leap from iPhone5 to iPhone 6 http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4910&idPhone2=6378

Today is a good day for Samsung. Worse hasn't come yet!
Just don't support old phones by not providing L5.0 and see how that profit drops even more (as a Note2 user, I will be one of the firsts who will leave the train).
Note10.1 still runs on 4.1.2 which is still under warranty! Shameful, right? That is the last Samsung tablet I will ever have as I learnt my lesson. No more Samsung tablets for me.
Nobody is stupid. No future service=No new purchase
Sony learnt a lesson of how to behave the customers in a good way by providing all Z series with L5.0.
I hope Samsung does as well (I hope Samsung is clever enough to learn something from that example).

Thank god! It's about time they got into their senses and stopped flooding the market with crap (and unsupported) phones.

Thank Xiaomi and the likes from "slapping" them into the right path.

Cause Samsung sells overpriced mediocre phones...
And invests most of any company into marketing those mediocre devices...
You can fool some but cannot fool all...

Yea Yea ! if the Company failed to break even It would be a good guess to Say Sammy IS failing but the mobiles is only One part Of Samsung . they Still have many Sections that are Solid. I Guess reducing the "junkmail" phone release method is one positive move to boast profits instead Of wasting material Creating things that dont even have market appeal anyway. Nice humble Steps will increase Profits again.

Only 30%? More like they need a 90% product line cut because face it Samsung, your entire low-mid range lineup and plasticky high end devices suck donkey balls. Maybe after that you might finally decide to properly support your devices as good as el cheapo Xiaomi; right now that's just embarrassing.

Samsung's chairman cut off 50% of salary. That is just the beginning Nokia is back and start using Android OS. Samsung failure is coming with that Touchwiz UI and wanna be Tizen OS. They will cry more.

What I expected to happened for a long time - you can't be the best company with so many models - this is great news for all customers!! Most inovative company Samsung will spend most time in developing less models!

That's a positive move for samsung. They should focus on their flagships and making them competitive not just in features but more importantly in pricing. I would like to see faster updates as well. The note 4 is a big leap forward, now they just have to address the weights that are dragging them down.

So common sense does exist in some corners of the company, or maybe it's that the situation forced their hand to be more efficient than a mud mudslinger that tries to see what sticks.
