Good news for Nokia, bad news for SE!
At least Nokia does NOT concentrate in one market (high end market) like SE so it can diversify their portfolio of phone products. With such diversification, their phones' prices are relatively "more" affordable than SE so it can sell more.
Problem is... there's still issues with their software and their quality (still too much plastic) and features aren't that impressive.
Otherwise, it makes "decent" phones but don't expect the best!
What you Nokia haters fail to appreciate is that every company wants to be number 1, that's why you see them adopting different strategies trying to get the top spot. It's not Nokia's fault that it's competitors have weak product portfolios.
Thus a phone is a phone regardless of whether it's a low, mid or high end one. The cumulative volumes of them, separate the boys from the men. The obvious advantage of having a strong product portfolio in all segments of the market is "economies of scale". That's why you find the likes of SE posting losses for several quarters now, because of a weak product portfolio.
This then renders the arguement tha Nokia is king of cheap phones devoid of logic. Then again i'm asking for too much from Nokia haters to understand this, seeing they have pea brains!.
Over and out...
Now people are talking about averages to divert attention from the matter at hand. I hadn't realised that the fact that Nokia is number 1 in both normal and smart phones would upset people that much.
Get it into your thick skulls that Nokia aint going nowhere even if Samsung and LG release 10 phones every week like they are doing at the moment.

100 items @ 1 = 100$
1 item @ 100 = 100$
Average sale = Total cost of goods/ total items
200/101=$1.98 avg sale.
but i agree with you in one thing... nokia the cheap mobile king lolol =)

WTF is this???? LOOOL AHHAHAHAHA OMG you gotta go back to school ASAP!!!
Anonymous, 17 Jul 2009Nowhere near as many N and E series phones sold as sub 62 euro phones, Nokia the CHEAP phone k... moreMathematically, the average for your example would be (100$+100*1$)/101=1.98$ To get a 62$ average, from 1$ phones and 400$ phones would be 400/62=6.5 phones. Rounding everything, for each 11 phones that cost 1$, Nokia would sell 2 phones that cost 400$. That would be I'd say 50 times better. Only those would be euros, not dolars. That means you are an American and it's ok if you don't understand mathematics. You are allowed.
Best done Nokia! U did it again! I am very proud as 1 of ur loyalty users since year 2000. There is no other company can beat u no matter how much improvement in their phone specs.

An example of how averages work.
A company sells 100 items @ $1 and 1 item @ $100 average sales price of items = ($100+$100)/2 = $50.
The company sold 101 items at an average sale price of $50.
Multiply it by millions and what have you got?
Most of the phones Nokia sold were cheaper than 62 Euro's and were cheaper than they were selling them for before as the average sale price fell.

Do you know what average means?. Did you read how many millions of N and E series were sold?, according to your fatally flawed reasoning those were sold at less than the ASP?.
Go and find an elementary mathematics textbook so that you can be enlightened on what average means coz as it at the moment, you are an embarrasment. OK!!!
The interesting number is the average selling price of 62€ this means that most of the handsets Nokia shipped were worth less than this, they may have shipped more handsets but they were cheaper handsets, the average selling price fell by 3€.
Nokia are the cheap phone kings.
the secret to success in mobile market is to build phone models with good camera (not 12mp cams like in s.e. satio) / 3g / symbian / touch screen (if needed) / performance / functionality / the look / good display / good battery life / matching prize tag - thats why the nokia 5800 got sold in millions world wide .
i think nokia have realized these and have grown up . but what s.e. fails in is there less symbian os supported phone models / too basic designs / unmatching prize tags with unmatched high camera mega pixels or let me say too much is - getting too much and adds - too much prize . if they had proper management they shouldve done something and s.e. should ve grown up the charts :-(
do u really think that ppl will actually buy so many 12mp camera equipped phones just to show off for a very unreasonable prize tag . i know that s.e. satio havent been released yet but i know that its prize tag will be not what we think it is when it gets released . cuz everytime s.e. releases a symbian product the prize goes too high . and they are good enough to stay with there own s.e. firmware but nowadays ppl are getting bored with it .
and lg / samsung still affected with limited battery life they are not doing anything to increase and fix this problem . fix it they will rock . and lg / samsung got very very reasoanable prize tags for there products no furthur questions asked about it .
motorolas still fails to bring up a good amount of mobile products to the market . i dont know when they gonna do that . they fail than everyone else .

As i have been saying
1) Any company that dose not have a Flagship "Truly World Class Business Phone " will loose market share . After P910 SE has steadily going down the drain... ditto with Motorola.
2) Look at HTC , Nokai E90 , Nokia E71 ... These companies are gaining market share because of their flagship business phones
3) Apple has yet not reached its full potential and will do so anly whan they have a great business phone
