I think they are copying apples plus name as a metaphore as to say F you apple. Why else would they be so blatant and use the same name. They want apple to know that they are copying them and that they have them in their sights that they know they are catching them. They could have called it anything s5 max, s5 L etc..

Samsung use the word 'Plus' on the Galaxy S series since July 2011. The Samsung Galaxy S Plus I9001 is an updated verion of Samsung Galaxy S I9000 which made debut in June 2010. So who's copy now? At least it doesn't bend like the iPhone 6 Plus.
