Yeah... every time Apple farts there's always someone calling it perfume. How is their touch+buttons interface so innovative? Don't all smartwatches work like that? Doesn't the Tissot T-Touch line work like that? This just proves Time magazine is just a load of sponsored/biased bullcrap.
I don't believe times just another american magazine

Anonymous, 24 Nov 2014If samsung smart watch is on the list and Apple smart watch is not, for sure Samsung fans will... moreI'm not sure if I qualify as a Samsung fan, but I know I qualify as an Android one. So here's my 2 cents.
The iWatch, Samsung gear, Motorola 360 and so one are not innovative. These are just ridiculous (some even fugly) battery draining devices. If I had to pick a smartwatch it would be a Pebble. Why? Well how about a screen that is easily readable no mater how sunny it is. Or maybe a battery that can actually last a week.
So no, I wouldn't praise Time if they put Samsung on that list, because it would just prove the same thing: Time knows nothing about technology.
This whole Time list seems stupid. What's innovative about a Windows tablet? Microsoft has made these since the XP era. Sure they weren't popular, but neither are they now. A selfie stick? Oh my, how did I live my life without that *sarcasm*. The Blackphone would be good (but only if it actually worked as advertised)
Gonna try to find the whole list. Pretty sure it's filled with other nonsense.
AnonD-334513, 23 Nov 2014features...really? typical androider...you guys think loads of unwanted features is the way to... more1) "iPhone beat Nvidia in a benchmark". So what? I don't care because it's irrelevant. Take a PC. Install Win XP on it and run a benchmark. Now take the same PC, install Win 7 and run the benchmark again. Now install Ubuntu (linux) and again run the benchmark. Guess what, you'll have different results, because of the different OS. Unless you can get an iPhone and an Android device running the same exact OS, these benchmarks will be irrelevant in determining the best hardware.
2) "Too many DPI, no one can tell the difference". False! Human vision is a lot more complex, you can't sum it up in a number. The amount of detail visible depends firstly on the viewing distance. At 1-2 meters we might not be able to distinguish more than "400 DPI", but guess what. We tend to hold our phones a lot closer than that, were we will be able to tell the difference.
3) "iOS is fast". Maybe. But so is Nokia 3310. My pocket calculator is even faster, but it doesn't do much more than a couple of simple math operations. Yes, iOS is fast, and the benchmarks prove that the software is fast NOT the hardware. But unfortunately iOS is simple. It lacks features. It lacks the potential to add on features, it's restricted. While Android keeps growing toward a PC level complexity, iOS pretty much stayed the same.
Windows 98 would be fast on a modern PC, but you wouldn't want to use that, because it would be useless.
Android Man, 23 Nov 2014what a joke. Samsung invented smartwatches. which is very good, then Apple invent one, all of ... moreNo, Pebble invented the smartwatch. Apple, Samsung, LG, Motorola and everybody else just made expensive battery draining devices.
...so the American publication chooses the Apple watch (not yet released) as one of the year's best inventions eh?
What suprises me is the veracity of some of the comments here.
Were we all not expecting this predictable plug regardless of it's amazing 'new' features?! (Of which there are none.)
Please bear in mind people this is list that includes a self stick FFS!!
;)
To illustrate my point further, and to make all the tech spec Nazis here understand, please explain how the selfie stick was also nominated into this list.
Which patent gave this the unique technological edge over its rivals? That selfie brush in the picture is clearly superior, you can take a selfie AND brush your hair. lol
If this doesn't make it clear, then nothing will. The list isn't about pure technology, it is also about it's influence and how it changes our behaviour. Once the Apple Watch is launched, smartphones will take off in a big way, and the landscape will change.
[deleted post]Apple did not invent the smartphone, and no one is claiming that.
However, the Apple Watch does include very unique implementations, and a great combination of technologies.
Secondly, there are inventions that make ripples in the industry, which is how some of these awards are also given. So far none of the current breed of smartwatches have excited the industry much (Even the Moto 360 is discussed more due to its design), but the whole industry is already anticipating the Apple Watch with fervour, and all signs point to it more than likely having massive sales (more than any of the other smartwatches at any rate).
At any rate, it is usually a lot of factors combined, that go into choosing these lists. Sometimes people agree, sometimes people don't.
Apple really? Um another marketing ploy
huh?, 24 Nov 2014The apple watch is just in prototype phase and Time declares it as a best invention? It's not ... moreLmfao! Right!? Nothing new mostly, but it's apple so it's amazing.
The apple watch is just in prototype phase and Time declares it as a best invention? It's not even made yet! There's something fishy going on here. Who's the writer?
AnonD-324565, 24 Nov 2014Microsoft band is actually the most innovative product of the year, a watch which isn't even a... moreTime magazine used to be a flag of scale. Once they collect experts and after two or three month they made an astonishing report about what they did and what they chose. Now we have more than 1000 reliable technical sites (Not fanbases) which in international or local form, inform people. The US government along side Britain's, sold their soul to Apple's system. They both are Microsoft haters and their experts are mostly iPhone and iPad users. If Apple tried to showcase sketches of a tablet similar to what MS SP3 is, Time definitely reports that that iPad MacBook is beyond innovation. Logic is not always on the screens.
Apple plays card with hidden magnet which is money. They abuse their fans, and after that give them a pack of chocolate, fans are happy regardless of what happened to them, thanks to a bitten Apple Logo. Once a professor toward a bunch of new students, express them more genius than others, those new student start to in hallucination, so the professor start to charge them for its purpose, Apple fans were those students and now they are grown up, but their brain is connected directly to string and Apple is Master of Puppets.
Any Microsoft, Google or Linux users, sooner or later in near future will turn to programming for the platform they use which is 80% of them and some of them which vary from 35% to 60% will become official developers.
Apple is vice versa, almost 80% of i or Mac Users are just users, with no purpose to do anything beyond what Apple prepare. The other 20% are Apple's serious developers who mostly work in places which Apple is chosen.
Since 2012, how many percent of apps are iOS exclusive? The answer is 13%. Others are Android developer which port their apps to iOS or studios with Objective C prime facilities which port their apps to android asap.
iWatch is just the worst gadget which is still not available. When it arrives, Those who go camping, must carry 4 Battery bank in order to stay for 4 days there. All the useful thing Apple claims, is also available in other watches, battery is the watches problem that Apple here Rules, "up side down", Just 1 day battery Life?!?!?
They know their fans are stupid enough to wall charge every day.
Anonymous, 24 Nov 2014they did invent it.

When you'll finish your grade 1, take a look what patent means and how to get it.

There has been a patent for the apple smart watch since 2008.
Samsung got to that patent and decided to try to beat apple to the race.
Apple also has a patent for their own Vr, dated 2010, but again, Samsung is being forced to make moves by apple, took their chances and came out with their own version of the VR, which was already patented by apple years ago.
Samsung are the biggest patent stealing theifs on the planet. You think it's by fluke they are currently in a lawsuit against Microsoft and Nvidia at the same time? apple is not the only company suing Samsung. Samsung has more lawsuit enemies then anyone on this planet.
It's amazing that Apple can get a product that isn't even made yet into Times top inventions of 2014. And to top it off Time makes it sound as though Apple invented smart watches. I know magazines are having it rough nowadays but this blantant payoff is ridicules.
Really? Apple Watch is one of the best inventions? Maybe what "Inventions" mean by Time Magazine is copying Sony's invention
Li Chang, 24 Nov 2014It's simply because Time magazine is a left wing organization and Apple is a left wing organiz... moreSo does that mean Samsung is a right wing Republican scum brand?
It's simply because Time magazine is a left wing organization and Apple is a left wing organization. The award has nothing to do with technology, it is about politics.
I have no issue with Apple products or the iWatch, but calling it an inventions is really too much, at most it is an improvement over existing products.
