I was of the impression that a smart watch is about its capabilities (smart?!) in its functionalities and not so much about its looks and bond changing. Surely Apple is yet to put out a smart watch and so I beg to know how does Time magazine equated its claim that Apple watch is the best invention of 2014 when Apple don't truly have a watch out and so many other companies already selling smart watch.

Sure many buy iPhone because its iPhone, that works one time, if they buy it again then clearly behind that Apple logo was great phone and great experience and they wanted to kept that when buying new smartphone.
Sameway samsung selling with their name, but maybe samsung phone experience behind the logo wasnt as good as they thought because sales this year have been very bad, so you see you cant sell with logo two times.
By the way iPhone 6 is best selling phone world wide, its actually best selling smartphone ever and its not because Apple name, its because its great device with great hardware and great experience which getting better and better every year.

How can be these inventions? Both smartphones and watches were around even before. Apple watch is just a combination of these two. Apple Watch, Blackphone, Surface Pro 3 are not inventions at all. Time Magazine has become a laughing stock by this.

iphone has one of the most advanced soc, an extremely capable camera and really fluid operating system. yet you somehow call it outdated.

A watch should reflect a personal taste for everyone. you can't achieve that with moto 360 or lg or samsung that has only 1 customisation. Apple watch you can choose from different materials, different bands, different size and different colours.
And it should be from high materials...stainless steel, aluminium, leather, sapphire etc

Apple watch? Seriously? It isn't out yet and it's mentioned as a innovation... Other producents like LG, Motorola, Samsung, Asus were first not Apple. Bad Joke.

"Scratches head" what makes the apple watch so special compared to everything else? It looks horrible, does the same thing as it's competitors has poor battery life, priced more expensive. What makes it so compelling?
Heck the Samsung gear does all that with a bigger screen better battery life and works even WITHOUT a phone including making calls, sending text messages and read emails, Which is more comfortable on a 2" screen then a 1".

here in india people own iPhone for. status only it costly as well but in us iPhone 6 is available as low as $5 a month

Looks like that it's a paid ad from Apple. How can you call invention of year 2014 product that will be available from 2015? It's just showing how good is Apple marketing in united states. They making people think that product is excellent even before someone try it.
Same about iPhones. People just buying them, because it's apple. Even iPhone6 this year is pretty bad (design is great, but technically it's outdated), but it's still best selling smartphone in united states.

Thats so nonsense, selfie sticks were sold in Asia in large numbers in 2013, even in Australia they showed up in late 2013. And the real name is, as any Asian can tell you, not selfie stick but monopod.

Time magazine = not to be taken seriously. They hail a yet to be released product as an one of the best inventions of 2014? So all the other smart watches who beat Apple in the smart watch race are irrelevant. Jeez talk about forcing undue recognition upon a company for no apparent reason
