IMHO they know exactly what to do but something is preventing them from doing so. Example they have the right technology (sensors, display, etc.) and knows how to market their products but can't seem to really bring out its potential and at the end it will just become an overpriced not so special phone after all. I have been using sony phones of several years already and this was always the case. Now I am actually considering brands like HUAWEI, OPPO, ONEPLUS LENOVO etc. Thre bottom line is they will make you feel that you have a "premium" device but in the long run you will feel like others brands are doing just the same or performing even better.

          Sony smartphones gone Zzzzzzzzzz.

Try offering Windows phones version of your Xperia lineup like HTC did. It might increase your sales.

Hmm. Another company downsizing their portfolio.
I wonder if the market is starting to shrink (or just, not growing as fast as it used to).

Sony was actually very good company with solid products. But recently their products decreased in term of quality. I've Vaio which brain-death less than 2 years. My friends phones' batt and screen defected in less than one year (eventhough it's flagship). Lastly their after sales services are horrible.

I'd welcomed the real Sony to back with solid products and services. Their design was always premium (but pertamax is better:P).

i find Samsung phones extremely unreliable based on feedback from frends who used a samsung in the past. It's only great for the first few months then the problems will come. It's like a Ford.

but to be honest, I believe it's just the android operating system sucking. the only phones that are stable are the phones that run "stock" android (nexus 5 and 6 eventually)

[deleted post]Although that is true for their mid-range/lower-end phones, they do have stepped up to the platter and are now providing good support to their flagships (the Xperia Z line).

They even have created a new AOSP project that already made available Android Lollipop to those phones (so that 3rd-party development may begin).

Don't rule them out, although their past empty promises do take their toll on their credibility (thinking how they mishandled the Xperia SP, particularly how they played with semantics, first stating 4.4 as a given, then as "under investigation" and then finally as a "not going to update").

So it took Sony this long to understand this simple thing? What happened to the flagship release every six months huh?

Someone is very dumb in their business management/marketing department.

Absolutley impressed with my Sony Z3 compact.Brilliant phone sized smartphone with full power chipset and many extras like proper shutter button for instance. First bought Black but sold it to mate due to long waits for stock availability and then bought White one..Fancy the Green one when its available sim free.

Anonymous, 25 Nov 2014Your talk like some talk like fact, you never own a Sony device if i look your attitude agains... moreSamsung sells a lot more phones than Sony, they are easily in another order of magnitude. I still do find Sony phones more *durable*, but durability is not the same as reliability.

Anyone in a carrier shop in Europe will be able to tell you just how frequent it is for the lower-end Sony devices to be returned for service. It's an extremely rare occurrence to not have one for service -- and they do not sell as many as Samsung, yet they are always in the pile.

Higher-end Xperias seem to be plagued with self-cracking glass, maybe due to the way they are waterproofed (the glue used for those panels).

I would rather live with inaccurate colors than a (literally) broken phone.
