So where is that new phone announcement then?

Qualcomm and Android remind me of another US duo that has been an anchor for the tech industry. I'm talking about Wintel. For that reason I am rooting for mediatek!

Me... moreHonestly I think Mediatek needs some good old fashioned branding and marketing for their SoC line, something catchy that can compete with "Snapdragon". Quite surprised that haven't done this already.

I believe snapdragon or mediatek does not matter much.. Btw, meizu is the best phone to get if you're Chinese or staying in China.

This should heat up the competition more rapidly

Mediateks have been slammed on a few notable high tier phones, but mostly midrange and low ends. They are no different. Intel* and Nvidia* should be considered ingredients of the so called 'emerging market'.

              * = on their CPU (SoC) department

They look at review videos on youtube, try out a demo device at a store. If it works smooth they buy it.. Don't sit around cribbing that it is not a snapdragon..

Also snapdragon is late to the 64bit game.. Not that is going to make any difference (just saying cos according to you SD is best)

I have mediatek and snapdragon phones for years. I will say that mediatek processors kill the mid range snapdragons. The only good thing about qualcomm chips are their high end ones. Their midrange performance to price ratio suck than mediatek. If it wasn't for manufacturers like mediatek, you would still be seeing overpricing from monopoly.
If I had the chance to choose between a snapdragon 400 and an MT6572, I would go with the latter.

In my opinion, the phone's specs is similar to 2nd order of leaders in market like HTC one m8 and samsung galaxy S5, whereas its price is significantly lower than them.

Other than budget Octa Core + 2gb ram, for this price range, it needs some other features to be competitive:

                                  1. Meizu MX design.
                                  2. 8mp Rear, LED flahs + 5mp SElfie.
                                  3. 16gb internal
                                  4. Micro SD slot.

if not, Zenfone 5 is a better value phone.

as long as they dont include any snapdragon processors they cannot become emerging smartphone manufacturers and cannot stand up to other companies in competition
