http://androidspin.com/2015/01/09/original-iphone-announced-eight-years-ago-today-something-everyone-thankful/

"That iPhone, despite its critics, was the blueprint for the device that you now have in your pocket (unless you still have a feature phone, I guess), and without it, smartphone technology might not even have made it to where we are at now."

What Apple haters don't realize is that all Android OEMs would love to have Apple's sales, profits, market share, and customer loyalty.

They think they know how much demand their phones will have only to be stuck with excess inventory and smaller than expected demand. It's not as easy or as risk free as you think to forecast demand and build a corresponding supply chain network around that.

HK has a pretty even split of Apple/Samsung users, though the majority of domestic helpers will have various budget and midrange Samsungs. Maybe only 1 in 5 people will have a non-apple/samsung phone.

By the way, the original iPhone was unveiled 8 years ago today, and we've come a long way, and even AndroidSpin says it is an event we should all be thankful for:

harlekkin, 10 Jan 2015I see iPhone 6 everywhere now. Especially in HK! Don't think they are selling poorly at all ;)Hong Kong, all kinda iPhones everywhere, even the kids, highschool and even below that, but not many 4 and 4s anymore, seems they are frequent upgraders.

How to tell mainland Chinese from a Hong Kong Chinese? The Hong Kong one has iPhone. I saw 2 ladies in Kowloon City who had Samsung, i wondered why, but then i look closer and noticed they may not be Chinese at all, i listen to them talking and right, they were from Philippines, mystery solved. More mystery when i met a nice young lady who had a Lenovo phone, of all things, weird! I asked where shes from and quite right she was from Mainland China, mystery solved again. I cant tell them apart, even the funny cute way China-girls speak English is similar to HK in the nearby mainlands.

Hong Kong just have to be the number one in iPhone marketshare, or in Apple products marketshare in general, really lots of Macbook Pro/Air in airport and McDonalds and so on.

Every big company, before releasing new product to marked, would produce the right amount of items, so there would be no deficit of items. Especially Apple.., they have lots of smart people, analytics who can accurately calculate how many iPhones they need. And when I see "unavailable".., just another marketing trick. The same Chinese phone manufacturers are doing. You can't buy phone.., you need to get invite to buy one... And then everyone is talking - those phones are bought instantly, they should be awesome!...
I hope one day Apple will release really cool phone...
:) the last one is lacking of design, and some spec could be better...

The most incredible iPhone launch since the first one. Estimated 69 million iPhones sold.

Samsung bearing most of the brunt of this assault.

Everything is great on the hardware front, but hopefully Apple take their time and test a little bit more in the software side. Otherwise, a great job.

In regards to your sales chart crapp ... do you know that the only reason Apple sales is increased is due to contractual phones... If the phones were sold on outright basis than it will give you a real sale picture ... Please clear your facts and do some homework before commenting ...
