I believe they want this to be a slight upgrade (with alternative OS) over the 97 and not the sucessor so that N97 sales are not effected. At the same time incorporating 8mega in another could hit N86 sales. Im not sure what their strategy this yr but it seems N86 is the only 8mega from them

N97 would prob be the symbian flagship for a while and they are switching to this new platform in like 2 yrs.

this is just the begining for nokia's computer hybrid smartphones. other devices based on nokia and intel's linux os powered with intel processor probably new atom processor for mobile will be launched soon then will know who will sit on throne of smartphones. nokia has spent all this time on R&D AND strategic partnership

Why do they insist on 5 MP cameras? No very smart, marketwise. Before someone starts saying that MP count means squat, still its not very inteligent to stick to 5 MP when the competition continues the MP race. Needed or not, pixel count is still a selling argument. I also presume that this one will come with yet another crappy LED flash. I don't care if it's a n-th generation LED, LED still produces poor results compared to xenon flashes.

@Everyone saying this is like the N97

THIS is what N97 should be. I'm going to repeat the upgrades from N97 to N900 here:

                        1. 1GB of virtual memory, which includes 256MB RAM (up from 126MB RAM)
                        2. Video recording is WVGA@30fps (up from VGA@30fps)
                        3. Screen resolution is 800 x 480 (up from 640 x 360)
                        4. OMAP3 platform (far superior to ARM11)
                        5. Beautiful GUI
                        6. Smarter open-source OS (can run the full versions of Firefox, OpenOffice etc.)
                        7. Kickstand, webcam, more realible design, better quality
                        8. And a lot more...
                        9. ...as well as everything else N97 had (including 32GB internal, FM transmitter, digital compass and much more)

Maybe the reason for it being a GSM phone is due to a lack of support for #G in Linux, Motorola never could get it to work which was why the V8 2G phone ran Linux and the 3G V9 didn't.

Maybe Nokia will have better luck.

I can't wait for this phone now.
I hope this phone must be launch as soon as possible, maybe this 3rd quarter of this year.
Surely this will be a very big blast in the pace of great smartphones..!
