What are you a communist or something, why shouldn't businesses compete or make money?

As was stated before the only reason component doesn't out put to 1080p is because the Movie industry doesn't allow it under DRM agreements with hardware manufacturers.
The other thing is will Apple add HDMI support in future?
They've been holding off while the dust settled after the HD vs Blueray battle, they didn't want to be stuck with obsolete technology like the X-Box 360 was.
I guess we'll find out in a couple weeks on the 9/9 when Apple is expected to release new iPods and a new version of iTunes with BlueRay support.
Yes of course Apple will allow 1080p to be played on the 3GS. The quiestion is, will they allow the playback of divx, xvid and matroska files? Only time will tell.

Even if the ISheep could play 1080p, there's still no way to output it on a really HDTV, the only best possible output is component, and as GSMARENA said: "component video cables are capable of handling up to 1080i/60Hz video". As u can see on my Youtube link below, 1080i if we were to convert it to progressive would make only 540p!!! OMNIA II and OMNIA HD still do better, and LOOK THEY HAVE DLNA as output.. chek out wat DLNA is???

Now apart from the fact that you can play content back on a HD widescreen TV, Apple already thought of the power issue, as you can see the cable COMES WITH A USB CHARGER.
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB128LL/B?mco=NDkxNTExNw
Now think of it this way, if the iPhone 3GS can play 1080p AND ANY OTHER FORMAT BELOW THAT, it's like buying a car that can do 300km/h then being limited to roads with 100k speed limit.
So what video output does the HTC Touch HD have?
Composite like Nokia?

Stay in your little blinkered world, devoid of possibilities, you obviously have no imagination if you can't see the possibilities that this presents.
I wonder why HDTV's have MULTIPLE INPUTS including COMPONENT.

If I have 1080p videos and I want to play them on my iPhone (suppose that I have one). I would convert to 480x272 to make the file size smaller and consume less power. The only application I could think of is playing 1080p on iPhone and use HDMI port to display video on a HDTV. But iPhone has no HDMI port so that will never happen.
In conclusion it's no use to play 1080p videos on iPhone. I hope you understand, it's straightforward actually.

---"Analog component video
Reproducing a video signal on a display device (for example, a CRT) is a straightforward process complicated by the multitude of signal sources. DVD, VHS, computers and video game consoles all store, process and transmit video signals using different methods, and often each will provide more than one signal option. One way of maintaining signal clarity is by separating the components of a video signal so that they do not interfere with each other. When a signal is separated this way it is called 'component video'. S-Video, RGB and YPbPr signals comprise two or more separate signals: hence, all are 'component video' signals. For most consumer-level applications, analog component video is used. Digital component video is slowly becoming popular in both computer and home-theatre applications. Component video is capable of carrying signals such as 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p[1], and new high definition TVs support the use of component video up to their native resolution."---

I doubt that he is saying that at all, as it was mentioned earlier and i agree a camera is different, you take pictures/video on your phone to transfer it to your pc for example and u use it from there. You may even downscale it to VGA but with a higher res source you would get a higher quality VGA image.
With a 1080p video its probably already on your PC and you would transfer it to your phone. Which you would then view it on. or would you turn that vid into 1/16th its size so its a hell of a lot smaller uses less power to play and will probably look better because its not scaled.
