the reason we use more cores as it's more efficient than higher clockspeeds, and is not as hard on batteries due to lower voltage requirements for low clockspeeds

secondly, they are very battery efficient, using almost the same amount of battery as a standard dual core processor
Anonymous, 13 Apr 2015I feel the same way, There shouldn't be 8 cores in a phone. Or a processor that can do laptop/... moreThe octa core setup is intended to save battery life actually. All 8 cores don't engage at once, they switch between heavy duty cores for demanding tasks and power saving cores for simple tasks or idling. a week long battery life with 2 hours of screen on time isn't feasible on a modern smartphone's battery technology regardless of how efficient the processor is. The iphone is dual core, and it lasts maybe a day and a half, even with a lower resolution screen and great optimizing. A more efficient battery technology that could store a much greater amount energy would be needed for that, much better than current lithium-ion batteries.
I feel the same way, There shouldn't be 8 cores in a phone. Or a processor that can do laptop/netbook graphics. We really need a phone that can at least run 1 week with 2-3 hours screen time per day. I say 2 cores needed at the most.
Why all manufactures very hyper in paper specs, why their not focus in battery efficiency, less heat, and less dangerous chemicals
well, these are all too techy!!
Anonymous, 21 Jan 2015You forgot that of the 8 cores only 4 cores are working at a time *facepalm* A better argum... moreno in 5433 all 8 cores can work at the same time..google it..

Anonymous, 21 Jan 2015The 5433 is 64 bit based off armv8 a57 and a53 cores. And it can run all 8 if necessary. I know full well what Exynos 5433 is.. And no.. The the 5433 doesn't run in HMP mode (all 8 together) .. Atleast not in the everyday bemchmarks he was quoting..
AnonD-345175, 21 Jan 2015wow... i just now realized that technology has come so far... phones will now have ddr4 1600... moreWhen mobile-Soc manufacturers state DDR speeds they state the actual speed and not the 'effective' speed. So the 1600 mhz DDR4 is actually 3200 ghz effectively or 3200 GT/s technically. Your DDR3 1333 mhz would be called 667 mhz in their speak...
With the power of 14nm processors, I wonder if the idea will come back of a cell phone that also can power a regular computer desktop. I.e. you carry a lighweight folding shell that's just a keyboard and a screen, plug your phone in and it launches a regular computer desktop on the shell.
This was done before (was it Motorola?) and didn't catch on. But the processors weren't really there yet. With a powerful enough newer phone and 128 GB or RAM it could really be just as good as a lot of laptops.
wow...
i just now realized that technology has come so far...
phones will now have ddr4 1600megahertz ram...
my computer only has DDR3 1333 megahertz ram :(

We will have to wait a little longer for better optimized results. But then we will have Exynos 7420 to compare.

Isn't it? If Samsung comes up with a dual core 64-bit CPU which is better than Apple A7 in 2016 (say it will power Galaxy S7), will you say that chip needs to be compared with Apple A7 only and not A9 (Apple's latest)? We are comparing the performance of best Soc of the respective manufacturers, not the core count.

I kinda like Snapdragon 620, none of that silly octa BS, just quad 2+ Ghz, 64-bit and Adreno 418 GPU, enough for any 1080p smart phone IMHO.
