Their Giant Phone UI is ugly.
And takes up tons of space.. the top bar + software keys below will take up more then 20% of the screen space in landscape. 20%!!
Thats the reason Samsung keep its buttons. Buttons was continuously added for Samsung as a test bed, like Samsung Note LTE / Tab 7.7 - cases of buttonless samsung products. However the introduction of that ugly 4.2 UI, that eats up more space then Honeycomb UI.
All blame is on Google for those ugly buttons.

Bendy edge screens, SD cards, and user replaceable batteries are the future. Trust me, by 2016 every phone on the market will have a bendy edge screen. Loving the burn-in on my Galaxy Note Edge.

this is the year Apple bounce back big time. They will do good sales this year. I love my Iphone 6. so fast.

AnonD-122903, 21 Jan 2015I used apple and samsung smartphones but i like Samsung's Note series better than iPhones.For me its opposite, I used both but Samsung's skin is ugly, design is very bad and also they don't push updates properly. All sorts of bugs and they never fix them.
Galaxy Phones are laggy from day one and heat up very badly. This year Exynos was good but previous year Exynos chips were simply dumping ground. Samsung phones still use physical buttons. Last time, Google used such buttons was back in 2011 in Galaxy Nexus. Samsung got stuck in Gingerbread era and design.

This isnt rocket science, finally there is a big screen phone in the market which works smooth and fast in real life, who wouldnt want to buy device like that.
So no surprising that samsung and others losing.
