creating own android derivative with it's own market & services? let's see what we have here, MIUI, YunOS (based on linux), FlymeOS, Amazon kindle fire, Tizen (based on Meego), Jolla (based on Meego), oh yeah and BB OS 10 (based on QNX), all of them have ability to run android app, but suffer from google services (unless you install gapps).
This is a great news for developers.Goole just treat us developers like S***.I would be glad to watch google loose control over android.
If they are capable enough they should break away and have their own OS but no, instead they shamelessly continue to use Android to get where they are and in the future i'm sure will market Cyanogen as the OS. What's wrong with Google having control over something they paid for.
Anonymous, 25 Jan 2015You have CyanogenMod.. Cyanogen Inc. is pure evil.. Nothing is as Evil as Apple and MS.
Meanwhile, on several devices Cyanogen has a bug that's been around since October of last year that breaks audio on phone calls, meaning you cannot make a phone call with your device. People are flashing other ROMs just so they can make phone calls.
Cyanogen is going to have to step up their game a lot, if they think they can be an entirely independent Android OS. You are not a serious smartphone OS if you ignore a bug that breaks making phone calls for months.
Every time some opensource project tries to make this move (several Linux systems are notable) they become less relevant.
The reality is, most people who use Cyanogen, still want Google services. They want their apps, their Gmail, and all these things to work together.
As a cool spin on Google's version of Android, adding in features and customizability that Google won't provide, Cyanogen can capture a large group of users. It is precisely because Cyanogen supplements Google's Android that it appeals to people and rides on the back of Google's popularity.
As a stand alone system that doesn't play nice with Google services and has a lame app store, it will go the way of Maemo, Tizen, the Linux desktop Gnome 3, and so on.
It's amazing how often in the name of appealing more broadly to the masses, an opensource project topples itself from the position of most popular opensource project of its type, loses users in droves, and becomes an irrelevant sideshow.
Yeah go independent so you can sign whatever exclusive deal you like with crappy vendors like MicrogarbgetotheMax. Cya cyaongenmod wouldn't wanna ya! Am looking forwards to OPO's own lollipop ROM that will be done right with a far better camera app than these clowns managed.
Play service is important because i use to sync my game progress 😂
you want your personal data being viewed by Google or US govn't, or you prefer by CyanogenMod?
in fact, cyanogen want to fork android, just like chineese did with MIUI, color os and some others. It worked great in terms of fluidity, freedom in designing a more personalized interface and freedom of sending updates.
This is kinda of nonsense. Their ROM is already based on AOSP, so to further break away from Google means... not provide a link to flash GApps package? They think they can build an app store that is comparable to Google Play Store?
They are preparing for a downfall on this one, man its as if they are not using the very same source that Google provides. To be honest, Google is making a good move by locking down the core using services in the play services package, in case you haven't noticed this solves quite a lot for people who are still running android version 2.3 or less
Cyanogen plans to break away from Google Play services.
Cyanogen has huge success because mobile phone manufacturers don't like to support old phones with new Android versions. Breaking with Google app store means they will need to create a new one. How long this will take? The question is whether users are willing to wait?
The flagship killer OnePlus One with build in CyanogenMod 11S has huge success not only because of good hardware, but also because of existing large Google's app store.
Years ago I used CM on my HTC Desire S and I was satisfied with it.
Nerds getting megalomaniac
Get rid of yahoo...
AnonD-60230, 25 Jan 2015you lost all my likeness for you CM!
you seriously want to integrate Yahoo? thats literally ... moreThey dont want to integrate yahoo...
...it will just work better with CM if you download it. It will have more rights to use your system to unleash its features.
Personally I think that this is a good move from Cyanogenmod, to finally be independent from the info greedy google.
Different name, but they still want to control it, so as to receive all the money that can be made. Neither is taking the users best interest, but their own. such is life.
Cyanogen base is nice, pure Android, the problem is Google Apks, the main problem is between Cyanogen and Google in termns to use their Google Apps like Play Store and Maps, but they are doing an excelent job on base Android OS software.
Main problem also is between Google an CM itself since Google dont like people modding AND installing GAPPS without out their approval.
So, I will still installing CM software as long as they still going on. Besides nobody forces me to install GAPPS, just installing for some APKS but nothing more.
go cyanogen! big fan :d
