For that to happen, it is not too difficult and it ca be achieved in four steps:

    1. Wait rill MS leases out elope to Cyanogen as its CEO.
    2. Wait till he declares cyanogen as a company is not doing well.
    3. Wait till he declares that cyanogen needs to be a subsidiary of MS.
    4. Wait till MS acquires cyanogen as dirt cheap price.
    5. Wait till elope returns to MS.

    Job accomplished. Mission successful.

Because before this with their "X" line (Nokia X, X+, XL) that's already their Android hedge bet they have that they can still continue on with either Z launcher or the same Modern UI. But right now since they're busy attacking the sub 200 dollar space with cheaper Lumias that X plan looks ripe for the killing.

Cyanogen mode also getting into bed with Microsoft. So there is definitely an agenda there particularly when Cyanogen has positioned itself as alternative to Google Android.

I wonder if MS does end up buying Cyanogen, although not quite sure what the purpose would be.

Now they stopped putting the logo on the back of the international version too (which has CyanogenMod 11S) because they are ditching CM for their own rom. (Oxygen)

Cyanogen can kindly take their buggy ROMs and leave. I'm tired of hanging out on XDA and waiting for that magic daily or snapshot ROM that doesn't bug or crash somehow. It's funny how single developers are better at implementing their changelog than they are themselves.

I'm by no means a fan of OP's invite system but I think they'll do much better running their own modified stock android.
