Anonymous, 13 Sep 2009Popularity has nothing to do with quality, see Iphone as a proof. But then it's still rooted to the Linux kernel, and has lots of capabilities and features. You can see the Krave ZN4 have that. I wonder why it didn't take off if this OS is very closely related to Maemo.

I don't know if you accidently switched Maemo with Android, but yes you're right, Android isn't as moddable as Linux/Maemo.
In case you actually meant "Linux/Android", then you should know that NEITHER Maemo NOR Android "is" Linux, but Maemo is closer to the root of it.

18000 people working on over 600 projects sound impressive but the truth remains that if you were supposed to purchase an N900 today you would have limited "apps" available. It really does not matter what potential an OS has once the perception is that there is little 3rd party software for it.
On the Maemo website I see a total of 481 downloads available for OS 2008. Of those 481, 99 of them are games. That is honestly very little. More people will program for Maemo if there is a large demand for Maemo devices (or do the App Store thing like Apple). And as it stands the phone leading the way is a very expensive devices that will not have those kind of sales that the iPhone had.
We will see but Maemo could be a wonderful OS that dies due to lack of 3rd party software.

It can record HD resolution of 1280x720 but the actual frame rates I've heard in reviews is around 20FPS and not what was advertised. Also there seems to be a lot of complaints about a few dropped frames here and there.
One thing with Nokia's video recording (those devices above 20FPS) it's usually silky smooth and with good audio quality.
I prefer Nokia's video recording capabilities even though with slightly lower resolution.

For 150 Euro this is going to sell really well. I might just buy one along with my N900. :)

I did all the things a could think of, even at the same time, and it handled everything smoother than a babys bottom. That is my review. Someone said below that the Maemo is not customizable?! Of course it is, it's made on Linux. Nokia and fans have already released webpages for programmers and developers for the Maemo, it's open for business. The N900 is with the Maemo going to be Nokias new gaming platform as well for advanced 3D software.
