Even my friends' old iPad 2 still can be updated to iOS 8.2.
Shame on HTC for not updating the older devices like One M7 & OneMax!

You buy an affordable one plus one which costs you 299$ or other android phones and get better chances of getting an advanced specs nd better customisation. And I bet it will definitely live more than 3years, With much less chances of getting lag. Nd guess what... You can shift OS to Microsoft which will b much more fluid. My hate is not on IOS.... It's on Apple.... Who are greedy by selling an over priced devices with less features. This Is fact!

If you know, you think Apple does not? And they are not working to improve the performance? Why not join Apple with your awesome knowledge about jailbreak and unix?
You also go grab a donut and wait for Apple's update. Else you can always plunge into the Android world and get no updates, while they are screaming for their moldy lollipop!

AnonD-322156, 19 Mar 2015There is lots people like you ,they don't know how to use a iOS Device.So u know how to use iphone better?? this is what i did jail broke a lot of devices using evasi0n jail break tool, tweaked lot of signatures in apps avilable from cydia to work on iphone flawlessly with false authentication.
The core of ios is derived from darwin( a unix based system), I know a lot of I/O in that core os darwin. Now dont ask me what is unix like system...etc
May be you know just to use facebook, whatsapp etc., Go and get a donut kid...

Iphone4s released on october 2011.Yes, I am using an 3 and half years product but the problem here is apple update system as they wan to run the same OS for the downgraded hardware and simply mentions that optimized for Iphone4s and blah blah ... Still my cousin Iphone4s with ios6(we bought the same day.. but he is not updated his OS after seeing many reviews of Ios7) runs all the necessary apps very well with out any lag in the functionality.
Now tell me the issue is device hardware or software ?? truth always hurts man...

Get real... moreI own iphone5S also, I am just pointing how greedy is apple to show the world that their latest iOS is running on older versions. But they don't mention that you will find a lag when we upgrade to latest version nor they wont give option to downgrade.
But here in India owing an iphone is just a status symbol thats all.. i have seen lot of people who owns iphone also use their droids as secondary to watch videos etc.,

Get real. Other devices of that age wouldn't have seen a software updated in years and still slow down.
And what? iOS8 has no HD video? Please. Yes it does. If you're looking for 2K or 4K however, no it doesn't. Because no one needs that right this minute.

Apple's distribution is just for devices compatible with the new update, while Android shows all devices. And Apple categorize everything per iOS version, where Android shows the fragmentation per version update (Such as the three Jelly Bean distributions where Apple will qoute it as a single release). That said, Android fragmetation won't look so rediculous if the charts were actually comparable

Luckily I'm on an "outdated" model with an A4 chip, so I have jailbroken and backed up my blobs on tinyumbrella + cydia. So I'm one of the rare lucky ones, who have the option to try iOS 7.x.x, then revert back to 5.1.1
I gave 7 a go, but it's too slow and I prefer the old UI. Not to mention I get at least 24hours on 5.1.1 standby (about 9 hours SOT. And that is with the original battery, now cycled 904 times).
Apple shouldn't force new updates on users. Or even if they do release a new iOS version, they should at least allow users to roll back.

Yes but with Lollipop updates, a lot of smartphone users are awaiting either the manufacturers/carriers approval and rollout of this, so the low uptake for lollipop is hardly a suprise.

Apple knows it wo... moreyou are using a 4 and healf year old device. and you expect it to run smooth on ios 8? after 3 years or so phones generally slow down, not because the os is heavier, but all the applications that you use, are updated.... to make it more functional , taking the power of latest hardware. Consider yourself lucky, as 80% apps run smooth on iphone 4s, and apple updated it to ios8 for better support for apps. It was your greedy decision to upgrade it on your old hardware.think about those unlucky android users, phones from 2011, like galaxy s2, htc desires, they even didnt receive os updates frm the last 2 years. and most of the heavy games like gta , or RR3 doesnt even support.

do you driod fans... moreI am experiencing it on my iphone4s 32GB version, safari is useless on iOS8. Apple knows it wont work well in the older versions but still provided a stupid update to screw up the older version phones so that that they will go for new iphones.
Some times I am unable to connect to 3G network, Shortcut bar wont come up and safari 2-3 tabs means multi tasking is like hell.. it needed to reboot to work them properly.
Even on my friends iphone5 also it lags a lot and you r saying android 5.0.1 lags.. good troll buddy..
No file sharing feature.. no proper attachment handling in mails.. no USB support.. no HD videos support.. and the best idiot thing is Itunes...
One thing is the UI, folders looks good...

Just because it's running on it doesn't mean its doing it well. My Mom upgraded to 8.1 on 4S on At&t was literally sucking the juice down at percentages a second. I shut off all Location Services, minus a few cellular ones. No avail, then shut off all notifications minus calls and texts; locations still off. Fixed the problem. She only uses default Apple Apps, so there isn't a ton of 3rd party apps on there. So, while it may run on 75% of hardware, it doesn't mean its running well.
