AnonD-341196, 19 Mar 2015Meanwhile the iphone 4s from 2011 runs the latest version of iOS. This is why Android will... moreLatest version??? In name only. What extra features did iOS 8 bring that are comparable to the iPhone 6?

Anonymous, 19 Mar 2015Samsung is planning to upgrade the note 2 to 5.0 and that device is 1 year older than the m7.I'm going to highlight one word from your comment: PLANNING. They were planning to update the Galaxy S3 to KitKat and look how that turned out... Besides (this is not for you), regarding everyone flaming because "5.0 is a bugged OS and blahblahblah", you clearly don't even own the device, you know Android is an Open Source OS and HTC modifies it. I have been using a Lollipop Sense ROM for over a month and it has been stable, solid, without a single bug or performance issue. So, people, please, PLEASE, don't waste your time making stupid statements about something you don't know.

Jack Johnson, 19 Mar 20155.0 is pretty uselesss, 5.1 is definitely necessary. It's either 4.4 KitKat or 5.1 Lollipop. P... moreHow exactly is 5 useless? I have 5.0.1 on my M8 and a few of my work colleagues have it on their M7s and say they are fantastic?

This news has ruled me out of ever considering buying an HTC phone despite the nice hardware. HTC management decision has effectively destroyed consumer confidence in one swift move. Very short-sighted. My Lumia is 820 is 2.5 years old and has the most updated Windows operating system. Goodbye HTC.

pipo, 19 Mar 2015It's still a "high end" device. And a lot faster than many new devices which cost... moreDoesn't make sense to keep making older devices. The manufacturing processes for the M7, M8 & M9 with having to machine out the aluminium would cost too much.
Yes it is fast but with most people changing their phones every 2 years with a contract cycle giving a 2 year guarantee of software updates is perfectly acceptable. If you keep an older device you should expect 2 things, one is that there won't be regular software updates and the second is that if you have a windows phone or an iPhone that yes you will get a watered down version of the software for several years more but it will fill up and slow down your phone so much you get p!$$ed off with it and ditch it. At least anyone with an M7 knows that their phone will still be fairly fast for another few years. Faster than a lot of the older Samsung devices for sure as sense is a fast overlay compared to Touchwiz. Touchwiz is the #1 reason I won't consider Samsung devices.
Another thing with the M7 is that it has 2 buttons instead of the usual 3 with android devices. That in itself would be a drain on resources withing their software departments.
So they aren't fools. Making business sense.

regs, 19 Mar 2015Brilliant? The phone is less than 2 years old. 5.0 was released more than half a year ago and ... moreThat's not entirely true. I got mine M7 on the 15th of March 2013 . You are not right about bugs HTC software is know for very little bugs, stable and fluid soft.I can confirm it. You are troll anyway.

What's going on with HTC. They messed up with htc one m9 and now with support. ..
at least three years support should be fine for a flagship device. Learn from apple....

                        AnonD-348141, 19 Mar 2015The M7 WAS a flagship device. 2 years ago....It's still a "high end" device.

And a lot faster than many new devices which cost about the same e.g. Samsung A5 or A3.

Considering the fact that HTC has a much smaller portfolio of devices it wouldn't hurt keep the M7 in production and updated. Since it uses some o/t same components of the M8/M9 production costs are already earned back awhile ago. This way consumers have a nice assortment of good looking HTC One devices to choose from covering the +300 euro upto +750 euro range. Plus consumers would have the confidence that HTC keeps their devices longer alive and updated and this remain loyal to HTC for their next purchase. Fools.

"But the many bug fixes and subtle improvements brought about by Android 5.1 won't ever officially be available for this smartphone, unfortunately."

                          That's not nice HTC!
You supply a bug-ridden 5.0 but then the really necessary improvements to create a stable environment to use your phone, are kept away from users?

I'm sure this will encourage customers to buy your new (more expensive) device... not!

I thought of buying this phone few years back, But unfortunately I didn't buy, Now I'am owning iPhone 5s & its awesome... Apart from being open source Android has many deficiencies like "many vendors combine different kind of hardware", "developers cannot build apps specifically to meet these different combinations of hardware", "Android OS itself owned by Google which means no vendor has no idea about any new upcoming updates in Android OS, they can't even anticipate about the changes the updates brings with it & hence they need to overhaul their entire customizations to their phones which is not possible on a long run", this is the best example "even though HTC build phones with aluminium & glass that is on par with Apple flagships, it failed to update its M7 to the latest version of Android why because of the above mentioned reasons", I feel that like Apple each major Android manufacturers have to create their own OS & customize it to run on their phones smoothly (as Samsung did with it with Bada & tizen, ofcourse Samsung cannot continue these projects due to the reasons that only Samsung knows), Thats why Google thought of creating the project called "Android One" that makes specs of the phone more or less same so they run the OS smoothly, but even that also ended in vein because of the diversity of the Android OS (How many Android Phones, How many diffrent specs, How many customizations, How many restrictions to developers) all these things tells me only thing... "STICK TO AN OS LIKE iOS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE FOR GREATER STABILITY"
