But the new Surface 3 (not Pro) is a more direct tablet competitor (an iPad killer) and it runs on the new brand new X7 Cherry Trail Atom processor. It should be slightly weaker then an i3... but not by that much.
On the other hand its fanless, lighter, runs cool and offers more storage then the i3 version (up to 128 GB + MicroSD) plus can be bought with LTE modem. It keeps the stylus support, though now you need to buy the pen separately.

          Well, all of them.
Sure, it's not the best choice for video coding, heavy photo editing or high-end gaming, but even these are a possibility... with some patience.
Otherwise it can handly daily office duties, note-taking, browsing and such without breaking a sweat.

            2. Light, yes, thats tablets already. And there are tons of tablets to pick from.
            3. NO its not productive to TOUCH a x86 program based OS. Its build primary for a pointing device (a mouse / trackpad) and a keyboard. Apps are the best for touch and stylus.
            4. Expensive. Still there.

Basically Window's forcing their desktop OS into the tablet world will fail!

              Sky is the limit...

              2. It's light enough to handle comfortably. You do get an excellent magnesium build.

              3. Not productive? There are no tablets that would be more productive then this (barring the heavier and thicker Surface Pro line... and maybe the new Toshiba and Lenovo hybrids).
You can get the excellent productivity accessories: Type Cover and NTrig stylus. With the dock, you could even turn it into a light workstation.

              4. Expensive? I suppose. You do get the beautifull hardware with active stylus support and without any silly software limitations. The price is in the iPad range.

And regarding the Type Cover, if it is of Surface Pro 3 quality, then it's actually very good - and much better then I expected it to be.

                4. Expensive.

Tablets will get the work done for most people. And if you do have any heavy task work.. you rather be using a full laptop instead, just look at that flimsy flexible keyboard.. its so junk. on surface. Unless its like Asus Chi series.. now thats better.

Surface Pro 3 is great in it's own right... but that's more of a MacBook Air/Pro killer. iPad is not even in the same league... and now obsolete IMVHO.
