D, 15 Apr 2015Nokia will commence making Smartphones in 2016It is likely that there is some type of aspect to the Microsoft deal that prevents Nokia from releasing certain products for a certain period of time. After that point though there is nothing stopping Nokia from returning to consumer hardware. As evident with the impending release of the Nokia N1 Tablet that period was very short.

That said though any new products would be entirely new. The whole mobile division is gone now including all the designers of those "awesome" products you miss. Indeed the N1 is not produced or designed by Nokia, but Foxconn. Basically Nokia is just lending its name to another companies product. Other companies such as Polaroid do the same thing.

I doubt Nokia will return with a new mobile division and will instead continue to lend its name to other companies for certain products like the N1. Its a far safer bet for Nokia with no overhead. Nokia is a far more profitable company without its mobile division. At the end of the day I believe Nokia made out like a bandit by dumping its mobile division onto Microsoft. (In short very unlikely) R.I.P. NOKIA as we know it !

darwinbrian, 15 Apr 2015Yeah, and Nokia will make more off cell phones than it ever did selling them. That may very well be. But we, as in consumers, have NO quality phones anymore left. It's either way too expensive crap or cheap rubbish.

All made by American companies with Chinese manufacturing fronts or crappy Korean companies still made in Chinese factories or even worse, Chinese crap of even more dubious quality. There is no European player of significance left. :-(
