Oh so many nokia fans life in denial still lol
Many of you need an education about why Nokia failed so badly.
If you think it's because of the Nokia hardware, I'm talking to you.
The problem was that Nokia, internally, couldn't get their act together on the OS migration strategy and the 3rd party app developers gave up on Nokia.
Firstly, Nokia couldn't figure out how to get the API's right to support multiple languages with touch screens. There was a point (somewhere between 2008-2010) that the development community had to completely re-write their apps for the Nokia ecosystem 2 times in a row because Nokia made big changes to the architecture to try and get multi-language and different sized touch screen support "right").
I know this because a friend of mine told me about the problems he had and the costs associated with developing apps for Nokia OS'. He finally said enough because the costs for app dev were too high so his company focused on developing for other OS'.
My personal opinion, reading posts and comments that were on the Nokia developer boards and the official Nokia developer exchange for Meego and Symbian (no longer available - ex: http://developer.nokia.com/community/discussion/showthread.php/218819-Nokia-Wtih-Symbian-or-MeeGo/page3) is that inside Nokia, nobody was in charge. Meaning that technical leadership was weak and senior management didn't have a clue on what direction to go (Meego, Symbian, Smarterphone - which led to Asha 1.x OS). Different people had different opinions and nobody could make the hard decision to go in one direction with one OS and stick with it.
One other thing, look at what Kallasvuo did (or I should say, didn't do) to counter the release of Apple's iphone and what Elop did to support his former company (Kallasvuo was a horrible CEO with no vision and Elop had the vision of teaming up with Microsoft and WP from the outset) and it's no surprise that Symbian and Meego phone sales tumbled during a time that people were moving away from small feature phones (which was Nokia's bread and butter) to larger and larger smartphones.
Anonymous, 21 Apr 2015Get real, symbiam is dead!!!Symbian was old and outdated but not dead. In fact Symbian phones still running just fine. And had real multitasking support and more....will be nice for Nokia release an update Symbian like OS...but improved.
