Your list was not a list of largest companies, but a list of largest revenues which means sales. The heading could have been clearer.
Revenue by itself does not tell us much, because 2 companies could have the same revenues, but very different costs, resulting in different profits.

You cant really compare the expenses because we don't know how Samsung changed their spending strategy from last year to this year. We also dont know how by how much the cost differs from past year.

It is more than 2 times the size of Samsung, and that is if you include all the other Samsung subsidiaries like health care and insurance.
Seems bad!
Samsung is still at the top spot in smartphone, but it’s market share is going down. Apple is making a strong grip in premium segment after iPhone 6 and 6 plus. However in mid range HTC, SONY, MOTOROLA, GOOGLE NEXUS, GIONEE and other country wise domestic brands are adversely effecting Samsung smartphone sale. Decreasing operating profit $6 billion for Q1, 2014 to $2.6 billion for Q1, 2015 shows the harsh reality.
Basically, Samsung is unable to understand the mood of consumer. It has to choose itself either as a brand of mass or as a brand of class. It needs to understand that the Upper middle class and premium class always want to show them self different from the masses.
The more Samsung comes closer to masses, the more it will go away from classes. You cannot sell a Mercedes C class and a Tata Nano at the same time. You will end up losing both. And, the same is happening with Samsung smartphones. Why not Apple sell a low-cost iphone to increase its revenue?
Samsung is in a kind of illusion that it is the best. First they lost to Apple in China, now its a Micromax in India. Yet, they continue with the same policy of making low cost phones with comparatively higher prices and less features.

Anonymous, 29 Apr 2015Sales down %11.
Nice.
Samsung sinking slowly just like Nokia did.Samsung is one of those companies that are "too big to fail".
Samsung Group is the largest technology company in the world at Rank #1. Volkswagen Group is Rank #2, Toyota is Rank #3 and Apple is Rank #4.
Nokia was a huge company when it was at its peak. And all of its products came from mobile phones. So it looks like Apple is most at risk of following a Nokia-style collapse.
