          iOS 6 was the best version. The newer ones look ugly. Not to mention iOS 7 runs horribly slow on iPhone 4.

              Many people dont upgrade because uses RSIM and Jailbreak like unlock services and they are affraid of loosing this..

                            I have iOS 8.3 running smooth on my iPhone 6. iOS 8 was a worthy upgrade in terms of Apple's Software which brought many features that long existed in Android. But for ios it's really a welcome upgrade. And as for older versions of ios I use my 3GS with iOS 6.1.6 which is OK for a spare mobile.
                            P.S I like iOS 8 than iOS 7 which drained my battery on iPhone 5

                                If a security update for Lollipop comes out, what good is that in practical terms, if only 5% of Android population uses it. Again, whether the security update is effective or not isn't the issue here, and not my point.

                                On slowdown of iPhone on purpose, Apple indeed has the power to do so, but upon analysis would not work out for them in the long run, leading more to a conclusion that it is a correlation most probably related to optimizing issues or upgrades of firmware:

It's probably not inconceivable that Apple intentionally makes their updates slow older devices down in order to convince them to upgrade to the newer versions.

                                        Look at the tablets samsung released.. they give so high resolution that the GPU cannot maintain, lag so badly.
