anony, 13 May 2017My phone did the update by itself, while I slept. Now my phone is all screwed up!! Wont ho... moreYup. I lost all my contacts can't have phone favs anymore. Can't do custom text tones. The whole thing is junk PLUS now my battery can't make it through a day. Did it in my sleep. So angry
Samsung Galaxy S5 - after update USB icon would not show on notification bar and I was unable to transfer videos into PC.
SOLUTION: Use a USB cable different than the one provided with the phone.
Spent almost 2 hours on the phone with tech support from both Verizon and Samsung, the latter even went as far as transferring me to "level 2" tech support (they call themselves highly trained).
While "level 2" was still trying to figure out the spelling of the last 4 characters of my phone's Build Number I used the USB cable from a portable HD I had nearby: the USB icon appeared and video transferring went on as usual.
Reverting to a i phone.....Samsung has to take responsibility not just acknowledge the problem
The minute phones became internet based with mobile broadband, this became an issue. You may, and I stress MAY get through one generation, but by the time a provider releases a 2nd generation model newer version of your smartphone, it will start to die after upgrades. Yes it is a ploy to get you to buy the newer version and spend obscene amounts of money that you don't need. The software in almost all smart phones is made to be upgradable and hence should be able to out last with proper updates and software upgrades to run smoothly for at least 5 years. However most of us will see our phones crapping out after 2 years like clockwork. That is not a design flaw, it is a purposeful design. Just like they don't make cars, tools, or furniture like they used to. The same can be said about phones. Does anyone remember the old Nokia Trac Phones? (a.k.a. the blue brick) They were designed with longevity, durability, and quality in mind. There was no though behind how are we going to make them buy a new version in 2 years, they wanted this product to last 2 years and beyond. If you can still find one, I just happen to have one and guess what? 15-20 some odd years later, many trips the rough way down a flight of stairs or two, an accidental dip in a swimming pool, and being bounced around the bottom of a football equipment or book bag through 3 years of high school; that little Nokia brick will still power up and play me a mean game of snake. How many Galaxys, Nexus', Blackberry, or Iphones you think will even still be able to be charged little less turn on in 10 years? The answer to the question is yes there are ways to put a band-aid on these issues you are having with these new smart phones, but the problems will always return. Just go out and spend $600.00 or more in some cases on the newest version/model and all your problems will disappear.....for a year or two.
Sincerely,
X-Mobile Device Developer
i am done with samsung after 12 years this last update has really been the straw that broke the camels back. very disapointed with samsung. they have major problems internally and from comoetition. good riddance you lost your loyal customer.
My phone did the update by itself, while I slept. Now my phone is all screwed up!!
Wont hold charge, apps installed that I don't want and can't disable!! What a mess!! Camera won't function properly. Very aggravated with Samsung. If I wanted to update, I would have done it myself. No thanks to you, my phone is useless. I'm due a new one soon, maybe its time to move to iPhone.
And in the meantime, my S7 is now junk!!!!
Intentional or not, they're "forcing" us to upgrade. After last night's update my Galaxy S5 is all but useless. Not only won't it take or hold much of a charge, but it displays unsolicited junk. Very annoying. Were they hacked?
They should be patching this as an emergency fix. Instead; they seem uninterested in doing anything for customers that have their 4 year old version.
They may think this will force all us S5 holdouts to upgrade but I'm inclined to abandon Samsung.
Anonymous, 24 Apr 2017Do not do the update ! My galaxy s5 worked fine until I did it. Now media doesn't work, phone ... moreAfter the update my phone would not ring nor did any notification work. This was because the Do Not Disturb was enabled after the update. I had to go in and turn it off.
I have a Galaxy Note 5 - and after this latest update, most, if not all my cables will not work as data transfer, only charging, and only from a regular plug, not the powered USB hub I have on my desk, which is how i used to back up my phone. Didn't have time to back up before this latest update forced itself on mu phone, and now I'm trying desperately not to overload my inbox with all the stuff that's supposed to be backed up, but isn't. HELP! I need to back up before I do a factory reset! The PC which used to recognize my phone, now doesn't recognize it at all.
Is there any way I can go back to the previous version? My phone worked pretty well on that one, and I would like to have a phone I can trust. I love my Note 5, and can't afford the Note 8, which isn't even out yet. This is so maddening.
Any ideas?
Happy, 27 Apr 2017With the latest update gmail app doesnt even synch mailsI have been having the same problem. I have an app my phone recommended, "Tech Coach" , if you allow the app full permission on your phone, they can take remote access of your phone. I had tried everything I could find to try, that I was sure would do no damage. So I decided to use the app. She didn't even need access, through chat, she had me remove the account. I had seen the option, but the warning was a little leary making and I didn't wish to try without tech advice!
I must have updated my samsung s5 recently too cause it wont charge. Tried different plugs, cables, wires and nothing! It gets power and vibrates every 2 seconds when off showing the battery with the lighting bolt and thats it. Doesnt show it gets power when turned on. And the one time I really need a phone, it sucks
The update killed my battery as well, now it will not charge. When I reset it works fine then it updates and kills it again.
With the latest update gmail app doesnt even synch mails
Received a "Software Update" from Samsung ( 19.95 MB I think ) for my S4 mini just now.

Do not do the update ! My galaxy s5 worked fine until I did it. Now media doesn't work, phone doesn't ring, the list goes on and on. VERY FRUSTRATED!
do not touch that update button
do not touch that update button
updated this morning, now (same day) my s5 is draining power...not charging at all. I have spent 2 hours trying to fix diy by 1. turning off and rebooting several times 2. removing the battery 3. cleaning the port 4. trying different usb chords 5. toothpick to adjust the position of the port to make better connection 6. then spent an hour with my phone providers Tech (in store which took an hour to wait for my turn) for him to say " I have no f***ing idea, we will have to send it away" 7. Now as I try to download all of my precious info onto my pc, because the usb port is not working, i will have to say goodbye to my data very reluctantly.
My S5 is on struggle street. It can't stop over-processing - easily noticeable with the drain on the battery life and the overheating. It really struggles with any sort of location services - google maps take minutes to load, I have to wait 15mins for Uber to load properly... any other app with a location service (whatsapp, facebook) 'hangs' intermittently... so frustrating
Funny how all these issues coincided with the release of the S8...
