Am waiting for other manufacturers to come up with Surface 3 like tablets that are fanless and light with a fairly long battery life complete with pen support.

At the moment a PC tablet will cost as much as 2 high spec tablets. The sums don't add up right now.

The new Cherry trail tablets like the Surface 3 are a step in the right direction and as more likewise tablets hit the market and prices drop many will go down this path.

Most already have iPad or Android tablets and upgrading to newer ones won't give you much bang for your bucks.

People are beginning to understand that tablets are just redundant devices. Tablets with the introduction of ipads become really popular at the time, phablets are just emerging and being criticized heavily and laptops/laptop hybrids are just to big and/or heavy for light to moderate media consumption. As phablets are getting more acceptable and light and small laptops/laptop hybrids are getting better, tablets are slowly losing market space. I myself thought that 5" or bigger phones are weird back in the day, but as content and usability improves, we would be asking for more screen space available at our pockets. This is also due to the fact that phones/phablets are getting thinner and lesser bezels. I think it is possible to fit a 6" screen to a body the size of Note 2 now and with that 7" tablets looses its appeal. Also, I'm guessing apple may release its own hybrid soon.

To your 16:9 laptop or tiny smartphone? Tablets emulate the size of a book and that's why they're more useful than either phones or laptops if you read a lot.

Lastly you can always install linux (if you're on a rooted android) and have a perfectly usable netbook as well. Not quite a laptop but much more portable and most "killer apps" have been ported to linux arm anyway.

I believe that we're reaching that time when the consumer is beginning to understand his/her requirements and by default the priorities. In fact as laptops prices are constantly dropping, people are beginning to focus more on them than they would on tablets. For example my priorities rest on 3 technologies: Because I am in the IT business, in my office I have a PC with a big Led screen. Then I have a 14" laptop which is very useful when I travel or for weekends or at home and a phablet. I can't remember when I owned a tablet for the simple fact that I never felt it would cover my needs. It was only a matter of time when the market began its adjustments, and for good reasons too.

Well I am an Indian and I don't like tablets for various reasons.
                            a) I don't want to take time to set it up.
                            b) What's my 1.25 Kg ultrabook for then? It's heavier but it's also much more useful.
                            c) I find using a large touchscreen to be a problem. I don't want my hand to move a lot when using a touchscreen, especially when using keyboard (as has been my experience with my dad's iPad (which is eating dust) and my ultrabook).

There are many reasons, not just for India applies everywhere

                              1. Tablets don't provide sufficient functionality that puts them it the category of essential

                              2. There is not much improvement in the last few years to warrant the purchase of a new tablet for existing users

                              3. Choices/ Options are fewer compared to Smartphones and tablet specific apps are also less in number

                              4. Phablets & Ultrabooks eat away from opposite sides
