No!! The whole App-Crap is nothing more than what is common in Linux for years: An AppStore is NOTHING more than a limited copy of a package repository that is part of EVERY linux-distribution - for 20 Years now.
Look at how you install or deinstall an additional browser, an office-suite or anything else: You point at it and the package-manager solves all dependencies and installs it without any further action. Nothing like downloading some file from the insecure sources on the Internet: You get everything, including maintenance, after you clicked only once on the install button.
It is stupid to say, Apple has invented the AppStore - they simply copied it from Linux and cropped the maintenance.part ..
I am quite literally about to buy a new phablet (the Sony Xperia Z Ultra - it's old, but I found them new for cheap)... But depending on what Meizu announce, I might pick this up instead.
If Meizu announce a 16Gb or 32GB model - as has been rumored - I'll most likely get the Xperia Z Ultra...
If however, Meizu announce a 64GB version AND a firm release data with the ability purchase this from Australia, I will most likely skip the Xperia Z Ultra and get the MX4: Ubuntu Phone Edition instead.
Yeah, the Xperia Z Ultra is a much higher-end phablet, but it does come with the downside that the size is almost impractical... For that reason, I could consider the MX4: Ubuntu Phone Edition - but I can only make so many compromises and without removable storage, the availability of the 64GB model is as far as I'm willing to compromise.
Umbilical Noose, 16 May 2015Yes Apple copied MX4 design. Actually, Meizu copied Apple's designs...
If you look at many of Meizu's products, the design is a blatant rip-off of Apple's designs and as some of their (Meizu's) advertising proves, they make no secret of the fact that they do this.
I doubt this will fly with the lawyers in North America though, so don't be surprised if you see a different design in North America or (more likely) Meizu sticking to shipping their products from overseas...
Anonymous, 16 May 2015Wrong!!!! When iphone did this there were no "apps" only desktop like softwares that... moreUm, no - Palm OS and Microsoft Windows CE-based operating systems had applications since WAAAAAAY before Apple had even dreamt of a smartphone!
Heck, I've got a Handheld PC sitting here on my desk from around 1996 that runs applications, right alongside a Palm IIIe "Special Edition" (or the "Palm IIIxe", as it was known in North America...)... Furthermore, I still have the cabinet (".cab") installation files on my computer for most of the applications I used to run all the Windows CE-based mobile devices I've had over the years!
Did the original Apple iPhone have applications on launch?
I can't remember, as I paid little attention to the iPhone back then and it was so long ago... As I recall, it had just "Web Apps", but I'm happy to be proven wrong (and I would not be surprised if I was, considering I have so little interest in the iPhone).
But to claim that Apple "invented apps"?
Seriously dude, you're dreaming... In a BIG way.

When iphone did this there were no "apps" only desktop like softwares that barely worked. Apple invented the concept of the app that's why they did so well. Canonical enters an arena 8 years late. WP already failed because of that cannonical won't do any better. All is in the ecosystem stupid (only Apple and Android have ecosystems , everybody else's fail).
So many fanboys knowing nothing about real computing!
Yes, stay with your black boxes that serves you whatever the corporation needs to promote and deprive you from whatever it is not controlled by them.
Ubuntu as any Linux is a REAL unlimited OS and it will convert the smartphone to fully functional computer through Convergence and real powerful applications not Android/iOS gimmick Apps that are useless.
I know you don't know what I'm talking about but its ok... Continue sleeping...
Anonymous, 16 May 2015No-apps=fail. Nobody buys OSes everybody buys ecosystem. Silly cannonical.A new device called an iPhone came out that only ran web apps in a market flooded by Windows Mobile and Palm Phones and Apps. It seemingly did well.
Ubuntu for phones is crap. Talking from personal experience with that OS.
Anonymous, 16 May 2015Looks like an iPhone 6 running Ubuntu. :-/Yes Apple copied MX4 design.
Looks like an iPhone 6 running Ubuntu. :-/
They wont risk it with the mx4 ubuntu, m1 is cheap with specs rivaling that of Huawei, Xiaomi, Lenovo which is the perfect device to test the waters in India.
that was leaked back in february at http://www.ubuntugear.com/2015/02/meizu-mx4-ubuntu-specs-price.html together with specs & price
