That's absurd, this means that my next Sony (on contract) will be stuck with the old technology for the next 18/24 months.

I was planning to get the Z4 Ultra but with these stupid decisions I guess I will go with the Note 5. I really wanted to give Sony a chance but they keep making it difficult.

Damn, I REALLY wished all companies started using it this year, so it would firmly and surely replace the archaic micro usb.

The only benefit I see is a higher charging rate since there is rumours of some phones like the Galaxy Note 5 using up to 20v input instead of the standard 5v and giving it a faster charging time.

Sony isn't happy until they get some proprietary bs going in their hardware. Not like I was planning on buying anything Sony besides a TV anyway

Angry Mobile Nerd, 11 Jun 2015You oboviously never installed a custom rom, then. you could install custom rom without connecting the phone to your computer.

And with manufacturer excluding expandable storage and moving to cloud storage dont the the need for faster data transfer. wireless charging or a better battery techs would be better.

There are many advantages for type c in mobiles.
Best one.will ne you cant break your connector by putting it the wrong way(which I work in a repair center.. And many many people do)

Another one on WP will be continuum (turning phone into full desktop on a tv).

Faster charging, faster data transfer, more support for otg across all devices.

It will also force manufacturers to use better memory in devices which will speed them up and work faster(like Samsung use in s6)

There is no real current performance advantage for type-c on smartphones. But Sony will surelly lose those buyers who think otherwise. Current top 217mb internal storage and 15mb external micro sd card speed on smartphones are easily attained with current standards. Getting type-c on a smartphone is like getting a 1 gbit wireless router on a 20 mbit internet line. It's an overkill. The only current advantage of type-c is the smaller size for better laptop design.

the usb type-c connector is gonna create a large amount of confusion for the end user. we're gonna get fleeced like hell.
it is just a connector and is backward compatible with:
                              1) usb 2.0 superspeed (formerly usb 1.1)
                              2) usb 2.0 (actual)
                              3) usb 3.0 (low speed spec)
                              4) usb 3.0 (high speed spec)
                              5) usb 3.1 (low speed spec)
                              6) usb 3.1 (high speed spec)
                              7) vga/dvi/hdmi/displayport
                              8) thunderbolt

                              utter nonsense.

the reason we had different types of connectors was because we could ensure we don't screw up something unintentionally (think vga in a printer port)

Anonymous, 11 Jun 2015Tell me exactly how many current phones have this, I am curious to know? Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but please bear my tenacity.

The first phone to have the USB Type C is Nokia N1 which was released years ago. The latest Smarthphone (and probably the first for this generation of flagships) is LeTV's Le 1, 1 Pro and 1 Max

Seriously, don't you read it here? Or at least google it?

If this keeps up then it will end up being ... moreI think Sony Mobile could have been sold if they keep struggling like this for another year. Sony just released M4 but there are some complaint s about it....Samsung and Apple really progressing, they are even making projects that phones can be interacted with cars they make. Sony is known for its high quality products but they seem to be falling behind....why is that? They always seems to be struggling.
